That remains a mystery.

It's probably because stolen or not, the administrators don't want to deal with the huge outbreak of chaos that would occur if they transferred the line-arts over without getting opinions from the users, and say, if the poll results were different (less "yes" votes than "no"), they probably wouldn't go through with it because it would hurt the site as too many would be upset. I don't agree with that reasoning, but I do believe it's what the staff feels is the best idea.

Unrelated to the above^, I have seen people on either side of the debate threaten to leave if they don't get their way.

i dont like the idea is good because it takes away from the uniqueness away from the pets. a lot of these were done by a retired artist. i think she did very well on them. to redo the pets would seem rather rude to me if i were that artist. equimagine put a lot of work into those pets. are you really going to spend all the time and possible resources to redo CS history?! i for one think you guys should be putting more time into actual important things for your site, like working on getting chicken dollar cards in stores (similar to what face book and farmville do with their virtual money cards). im sorry to say this but i think the older styles do look better than the new ones...except for the draft horse...the new one looks pretty cool.

THANK YOU. This seriously should not have even been up for debate! Just done and dusted with an explanation as to why. There would be a LOT less people getting hurt and getting into such nasty arguments. Heck, people are getting threatening PM's over this!

I support the switch - the new lines and designs look much better and no one will forget the orginal artist; even if she clearly traced them and doesn't have any right claiming them as their own. All art theft, is theft, even in minor ways. In my eyes, it even increases their worth.

New unicorns and stuff? I'm so in. I would love some updated unicorn lines.

In my opinion, Tess should've just gone ahead and re-done them years ago. I love this site but like I said, it should've been done years ago.

It's stupid that a ton of users are going to "quit" because of this. I am willing to bet that atleast 65% of the users saying that, if not more, will still be here when the lines change....because let's face it, they're going to change and they need to change. So, go on, quit. I bet you'll be back.

I definitely prefer the new versions of the horses. And if the change happens, I will have to go through the archives to add quite a bit of them to my WL. :)

EXACTLY!!!!

I think that some people are just really passionate about the art theft thing.. many of them let their imaginations go wild.. many of them art artists themselves so it can get really personal.

This isn't people's "imaginations going wild', there is proof that at least ONE set of lines are traced, and you could make an argument for many more also being traced. One set of traced lines is bad enough.

I'm not an artist and I still take this very seriously. Not only is it the law, but it also makes CS more credible, and not hypocritical.

Also there are plenty of reasons to change them outside the line art issue.

I honestly don't know why the art wasn't just changed straight-off. I wish that Tess and such had just gone ahead and done so, actually!

But, it's put up to a vote. And I think that the questionable lineart is a pretty compelling reason to vote for the change.

As for imagination going wild, by the way, it's kinda hard to imagine this:
http://25.media.tumblr.com/eaa1e085c033 ... 4_1280.png

Equimagine herself also admitted some level of wrongdoing. It is perhaps not damning enough that it would hold up in court, but it makes the old lineart distinctly, well, icky! There's a cloud of suspicion and dubiousness over them. And we have a perfect opportunity to change that now.

Anyway, on the subject of people leaving...

To be brutally honest...

(And perhaps a tad mean...)

If people are going to quit because they are upset about the possibility of CS no longer tacitly condoning art theft... I say good riddance. We as a community pride ourselves on artistic integrity. It's time we got all of the lineart in line with that philosophy. If somebody isn't on board with making honest artwork, they aren't a good fit for this community and I sincerely hope they go ahead and leave.

The lines equimagine used were traced, it doesn't matter if its 'rude', its a matter of whats right and legal. CS could get in trouble for this. She would still have her credit, all this would do was put her designs on lines that aren't traced and also would create a nice uniform look.
So no, this is a pretty pressing issue and needs to be taken care of.
