@eclipseranch please don't constrew what I am saying, I never stated that this was a popularity contest. Plus, this alteration is justified through its possible form of art theft. If any other user on this site were to engage in something similar, it would be branded art theft and they would be served the consequences, rightfully so.

I didn't "constrew" the word unpopular and boost popularity were your words in your post...curious though you guys are stating this was not Equi's line art yet its theft...hmm interesting

my point remains the same you want to "alter" what has already been created by someone
the words can be twisted however individuals want but the alteration is the basic issue.
if all my horses IRL had the same build but were different colors it would be rather boring around my ranch..just sayin

I'm not sure if it's your wording or what, but it doesn't seem like we're all on the same page. It IS theft. She placed a piece of paper over a photograph, outlined the image behind, added some details, and called it her own. That is theft and that's the major issue. As I also stated before, the coloring and designs WERE her work, and therefore that's what's staying. So technically, none of her work will be done away with.

I would agree with that, but Yunlyh's signature is on the art, whilst she had nothing to do with the design. I think equimagine's name should remain with the designs.

I like that idea. I am hoping we will get to keep some of the PPS ones actually. And maybe one donkey.. :)

This would defeat the whole purpose of the transformation.

The donkeys will change to to an updated lineart. :)

This is why I'm on the lighter side of the art theft issue.
For those that are on the extreme side of the art theft issue of the fence, the next steps of that extreme would be to delete the warrior cats or overlay them with non recognizable art like scourge's collar and brightheart's face, re-do all the fennic foxes, delete all the malk dragons or change the colors entirely... at that point you may as well just streamline everything and make only one lineart for each species since we're worrying about old art theft.

At this extreme point of view of streamlining, this is a good reason not to allow any artist at all to create new lines ever. Only Tess should be making lines because there's honestly no way to trust that these kinds of things won't pop up over and over again.

You've also got the issue of the younger members that have been collecting these pets and don't understand the art theft issue at all or just don't care and vote on how pretty they think the pets are.

Uh, not really.
The warrior cats are not traced, and natural patterns cannot be copyrighted. The only reason they were asked to be taken down is because Tess used the name "Warrior Cats" for them. That's it, and it's done with. I don't know if the fennecs are traced, actually, but I don't see much of a point in changing them. There are very few fennecs, it's not like we're dealing with a huge, entire species (like we are with the horses).
And there's nothing wrong with the Malk Dragons? Malk drew those herself, I don't know what you're going off about.

No good reason to allow any other artist to ever make lines? No, that is not good logic. That's like saying that, because two non related girls cheated on their boyfriends, girls shouldn't be allowed to date boys because they may cheat. You can't take the actions of on or two people and stuff all consequences on the rest of the staff.

Alright, I think some people need to sit back and look at the facts.
You are allowed an opinion, but please remember that your opinion is not right, nor is it wrong. Your opinion is no better than anyone else's, and I think a lot of people on this thread need to realize that. (Or perhaps they do and I'm just getting the wrong vibes. (:)

Now that I've said that, I'd like to state my opinion.
I'm completely for this change. This website has a huge community of artists and upholds strict rules on art theft, and I find it frankly disgusting that a staff member is allowed to break those rules without any repercussions. Equimagine committed art theft by tracing/heavily referencing photographs to get her linearts. Whether or not you consider photography an art, the fact of the matter is that it is an art and therefore referencing/tracing without permission from the photographer is a crime. Now, despite what a lot of people are saying, the website won't be shut down. However, a DMCA report could be filed, and if that happens, there's a high chance the Equimagine linearts will be taken down before we have the chance to replace them all. In that case, the upgrade won't happen, but we won't have the old linearts either.

Getting off the art theft issue, however, I simply can't wait to see the results of this change if it goes through. I was never a fan of Equimagine's lines. They always seemed pretty off and inconsistent to me. Not to mention how smudged/blurry the designs on her horses are. (Note: I'm not bashing her, she clearly put a lot of effort into the designs, I just don't like them.) ake the wave pony, for example. I don’t like it. I didn’t before, and I’m not a fan of the enhanced design because it just doesn’t appeal to me but, my god, it’s a huge improvement. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s an absolutely gorgeous design and I love how it’s been done, and I can’t wait to see more like it, it’s just not my thing.

And the new drafts are just gorgeous. The shading and highlighting on the example one had me grinning. They look so stern, but at the same time they’re gorgeously realistic and squishable. And the Easter draft in those lines? Adorable. I really hope this goes through because the drafts are honestly beautiful.

Also, I think a lot of you need to back off the "no" voters. c; A lot of them seem to be being hounded for their opinions.

As a reminder, if anyone gets any nasty PMs from others over this (or anything else), please do report those PMs so we can deal with them. :3 It's not acceptable for anyone to be harassed or bullied over their views on the matter, even if others disagree with those views.

I agree with having both names shown. I suggested it a hundred or so pages back. We would still be honoring Equimagines designs, but doing away with the shady line work.

My heart goes out to the ones voting no, though. If seems if you vote no you get bombarded with comments like
" How could you condone art theft!!!!"
"How could you not know that art theft is wrong.. where are your morals?"
"You're being selfish and not thinking right" (my fave cuz it was directed towards me) :)
"What are you blind?"
"You're not thinking CS as a whole"
"How can you possibly not see tracing?! They line up perfectly"!!

And yes.. everyone one of these comments were typed in the last couple of days. Plus more.. and they are usually followed up with two pages of "I agree" comments.. which can get very intimidating.. It doesn't help a person change their mind.. It makes them feel hurt and singled out.

To me, this is belittling someone just because they have a different opinion than you. Just because they want to keep the lines doesn't mean they are selfish, immoral, and blind.. that is ridiculous. Plus, you don't know the reason for a different opinion. Don't assume too much.

Give them the facts we know about.. and not paranoia -- "We are gonna shut down if the lineart isn't changed tomorrow"-- kind of stuff..

Let people know know about the theft issue and why you have your opinion, that's fine. But please allow others the curteousy to think for themselves.

And yes I know this is a lil bit of mini-moding and tried to resist.. but so many rules have been broken on this thread already.. I figured it wouldnt matter..

All of this. I've been screamed at, called names and more just because I decided to stand up for those who do like the equimage art and all others are doing is telling me "I don't have eyes".
It's funny the number of people putting me on a foes list when they never asked what I actually voted for or why. :/

There are a ton of reasons for both sides floating around right now. Let people make their own decision on what they feel is important.

foeing people over stating an opinion in a public discussion is just immature and silly
I respect both sides of this issue and the members behind those opinions,,and I fully believe if Hekomi or any other mod sees posts that are mean spirited whether public or pvt they will handle it...so use the report button
ultimately, this issue is Tess/Nick's decision

I agree - it would be honoring both artists for the work they did. Yea maybe Equ' messed up with her lineart thing - but that dosn't mean her designs arn't hers. Unless proven otherwise? I think both their signatures should be placed on the edited/new designs.
