I agree; there's far too much arguing going on, and, although (as another person said already) it's nice to have a discussion about it, I think it's getting a little out of hand now, given that this is just a change on a lineart. Not everyone here is bashing another, and some people are talking civilly about the whoe thing, but others aren't and perhaps it would have been easier to just make a poll, to be honest.

Just stating my opinion here, please don't jump on me ^^

I agree, but CS should also be ashamed that they used stolen lines for a few good years as well.

I almost agree with You both, but I don't think it started going out of hand as soon as this idea appeared, not only now. The first hours after suggesting this were horrible on this thread D:
After years of commitment to the site I was treated like a dirt, falsely accused and judged by almost everyone with no chance to explain. I do not see the point to stay here anymore, so it's a farewell!

It seems like no one remembers that Malks lines were revamped as well, and the newer line arts were much better than the old ones, look at how much people love malk pets now. We weren't even given the option to vote for the change when that happened, it just happened.

That's the problem. Everyone keeps comparing this vote to Malk changing her lines.
Well, keep in mind that most of us [myself included] weren't around when Malk changed her lines, most of us joined in the last couple years.

Also, Malk was the one changing her lines. Equi isn't here to change her lines, and if they do get changed, it won't be her lines anymore. It'll be Yulynh's lines. I just think Equi's designs should stay on Equi's lines, simple as that. They were updated after the tracing issue, and yeah, I've seen people posting how they have similar parts to the ones before the update, but that's what an update is. It's not completely and utterly changing the lines, so they will have some similarity. You can't really fairly compare Malk's line changes with this because the circumstances are completely different.

Alright, I think some people need to sit back and look at the facts.
You are allowed an opinion, but please remember that your opinion is not right, nor is it wrong. Your opinion is no better than anyone else's, and I think a lot of people on this thread need to realize that. (Or perhaps they do and I'm just getting the wrong vibes. (:)

Now that I've said that, I'd like to state my opinion.
I'm completely for this change. This website has a huge community of artists and upholds strict rules on art theft, and I find it frankly disgusting that a staff member is allowed to break those rules without any repercussions. Equimagine committed art theft by tracing/heavily referencing photographs to get her linearts. Whether or not you consider photography an art, the fact of the matter is that it is an art and therefore referencing/tracing without permission from the photographer is a crime. Now, despite what a lot of people are saying, the website won't be shut down. However, a DMCA report could be filed, and if that happens, there's a high chance the Equimagine linearts will be taken down before we have the chance to replace them all. In that case, the upgrade won't happen, but we won't have the old linearts either.

Getting off the art theft issue, however, I simply can't wait to see the results of this change if it goes through. I was never a fan of Equimagine's lines. They always seemed pretty off and inconsistent to me. Not to mention how smudged/blurry the designs on her horses are. (Note: I'm not bashing her, she clearly put a lot of effort into the designs, I just don't like them.) ake the wave pony, for example. I don’t like it. I didn’t before, and I’m not a fan of the enhanced design because it just doesn’t appeal to me but, my god, it’s a huge improvement. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s an absolutely gorgeous design and I love how it’s been done, and I can’t wait to see more like it, it’s just not my thing.

And the new drafts are just gorgeous. The shading and highlighting on the example one had me grinning. They look so stern, but at the same time they’re gorgeously realistic and squishable. And the Easter draft in those lines? Adorable. I really hope this goes through because the drafts are honestly beautiful.

Sorry, didn't make my meanings clear - I meant the first few hours and everything that followed after that, not when it first appeared in the first few pages, if that's what you mean. My fault entirely.

Thinking about it, I agree with you as well, Atome; it isn't right that a regular user usually gets a board warning/another punishment if they commit art theft (even if they do say it's a mistake) and yet an artist can get away with it. Her designs are good and I'd like to see them on the new linearts, don't get me wrong, but it's just the fact CS is so against art theft, and then this happens, if you see what I mean.

I understand the reasons given for the proposed change. However, I find it very disappointing as I tend to celebrate the strength and individual style of every artist. I do not have a particular "pet" in mind at all. My first thought is that this is a slap in the face to Equimagine who spent countless hours of her time creating Equine pets here on CS for the user members to collect. Perhaps she wasn't/isn't your favorite artist but, none the less she was an artist. It would be like changing the famous statues of the past because they don't fit the decor of my city. I see this as selfish and wrong..just my 2 cents!

If the statues in your city were exact replicas of someone elses statues and they tried to take credit for it, tear those suckers down.

I fell asleep for a few hours, came back, and everyone is still at each others throats. Did I really expect any less? (:
Any word on the unicorn lines while I was away?

I'm for the change.
Just reading through the thread and researching, though delayed, it seems like the right thing to do about the situation.
Not to preach art theft, but this may be a rather big step in the right direction.
~Ember Glaze~ may a wonderful point; change is scary, like really scary. This may be kind of a silly example, but you know how when people move, they're sad to see their old friends go? It takes some time to heal from the experience, but overtime, you grow to really like the new people around you and even make friends.
Where I'm going with this is, maybe you'll find some new designs really amazing, and maybe you might not. It's a fun change, and remember, the staff isn't just doing it to bother the me member, they're doing it help to fix an old mistake. I think its pretty brave of them to come out and tell the whole story, and think maybe Equi would be happier, because they can finally put the rumors and the hold problem to rest.

Just a couple more cents. I'm done now.

"A man may drink and not be drunk
A man may fight and not be slain
A man may court a pretty girl
And perhaps be welcomed back again
But since it has so ought to be
By a time to rise and a time to fall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all"

Hello, Read, Nick, Moderator, guest or fellow smoothian c:
I stumbled across the Big Swap. I love the idea, and can't wait for the outcomes c:
The only thing is, It's quite hard to find the vote. Only 1200 people have voted, and there are tons of active users. A friend had to show me, as I had no idea about it. I think there should be a post on the front page, to give it publicity for a fair vote c:
I know a few COPPA's that might miss their vote as they don't visit threads much because of their inability to post, and a few members who care purely of adopting pets that never search the forums. As the pets they have might change, I thinly they will want a say.
Thank you for reading, if this falls off the front page, just give it a bump c:
