Besides, neither of the admins seem too concerned. At this point, I think that this "art theft" thing can be put to rest.

It can never be put to rest - for every day that we use those illegal lines, the chance that we get found out gets higher - plus it's horribly immoral to use someone elses work in such a major way for YEARS and not tell them about it. I'd rather have the horses on the new lines then not have them AT ALL.

We don't really even have any real proof that the artist did this.

We have lots of proof - the foal lines, for example, match photos exactly. Give me a minute to find the comparisons of the linearts to the photos, and it's out of the question. Plus, Tess says on the front page that they were referenced without permission.

But we don't use those lines every day. -_- The foal lineart has been retired for years and only pops up on a few pets every Dec 18th.

The pets aren't mysteriously going to disappear from your account so you don't have to worry about the "at all" part. :)

We don't really even have any real proof that the artist did this.

Equi herself has flat out admitted she traced some of the earlier foal lines, and there is ample evidence of her tracing the main horse lines and most foal lines. (I'd link but on a phone!)

this

I knew it was around here somewhere :D This is the most blatant example of tracing - I'm sure equimagine didn't do it maliciously, but I'd rather not have my beloved pets - like this guy ;

in danger.

(and I've gotta say - what singles him out of the bunch is his design, not his lineart)

BTW, why not to ask photographers if they want the change or not? If someone used my photo, I would be happy. Yes, happy.

Would you be happy if you knew people had been profiting off it, without telling you? Admittedly I'm not sure how much, and I'm not sure how it stands legally, but the point remains.

If someone asked me to use my photograph for reference or to share it, I'd be honored. If I found out someone traced my photographs or used them without permission and giving credit, I'd be pissed.

Someone elses work? But they're just photos, not really that hard work if you ask me... I will never get why tracing photos of something as common as real animals is considered "art" theft... But that's just me.

I don't vote yes because of the tracing part, I simply vote yes because I prefer the new lines by a long shot. I'd love to see the old designs on the newer lines =3
And I'm in love with that arabian lineart suggestion! Best suggestion ever <3

It totally depends. If it was me, I'd be indifferent. It's not like I can't look at the photo anymore or anything.. And besides, MY PHOTO is being used my a million people and they all adore it!! o3o

Oh yes, I had a question earlier:

Why change ALL the lines?

I have seen no proof that the lines for the Rainbow manes are traced.

OK, the unicorns and the ponies are traced. Yes, that is wrong, yes they should be changed.

But why drag the other equi lines down with them? Wouldn't it be less work for the artist to just change the stolen art and the Draft lines??

Less people would be torn between the Draft and the Rainbow Manes.

So many questions. -3-
