Alright, I originally said yes to the transformation, but now I've seen some really good points being made. Changing these horses is like Greek/Roman mythology. At first there were the Greeks, the old and most powerful of the time, then along came to Romans and tore down the Greek empire, basically taking the Greek gods and changing them. If we didn't have the technology we had today, most of the Greek's history would be lost. It's the same with the horses, if we change them, then our history, the history of CS will be changed as well. Imagine how confused the new members would be when the older members would be taking about 'the great horse change' or something like that. There would be no history or anything to dignify that these horses even existed! Besides, the newer horses aren't exactly my favorite of CS pets. I personally like the older design better.

Getting a little Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit, eh?

While it's true Romans did take a lot from the Greece, keep in mind Horace above. Greece was still a major cultural mecca, and the 'best things' to the Romans in terms of art, music, plays and sophistication were still very much GREEK. The Romans definitely melded their gods in with the Greek ideal - but it's a pattern they repeated all over the place, and it went both ways. You could perhaps even say that the Greek gods overrode 'traditional' Etruscan gods, as Romans are borne out of that mix, and in fact proudly considered themselves descendants of Troy (which is decidedly Greek).

Since they held the Greeks in such high esteem, the Romans spent a lot of their time studying their culture - and preserving it. Greek was the second-most-spoken language in Rome (the 'lingua franca', if you will), and many famous Greek philosophers did a large part of their work in Rome itself.

...Right, now that I've gotten my Classics nerd on, maybe we can find a better analogy. c:

To me, this is like a historic house. A landmark that all the townspeople love. However, it's shaky on its foundations, there are termites in the wood, and some of the old beams are being eaten away by 'rot'. (All of these blows are the many reasons for changing the lineart - aesthetics, sharing items, the question of if something has been traced or not, etc.) Now we have a choice - either do nothing and just hope the house doesn't fall down around our ears, or we can call in some builders to fix the problem.

The builders won't be able to do an exact replica. But they'll be able to get the house much safer to live in, and much more beautiful to boot. It just won't be quite the same.

We will still be able to look at photographs of what the original house was like. People will remember what it is like. People can talk about it and share those photographs with others. It's just that we decided to repair the house so we could live in it more comfortably.

I think that's entirely acceptable for a house that we don't have to worry about. c:

I'm mean seriously!? If you take away those horses, your taking away history! Those line arts show us how CS evolved.

I agree we should just make completely new lines to satisfy everyone that look more interesting that the new ponies.

That would not solve the problem as said on the front page.

Why would it not? There are far too many arguments about this, so there needs to be a new option we can all agree on, such as totally new lines.

They were never rare. The only ones that have some value are the buckskin PPS and Rainbow mane. Nothing else has real value, to be honest.

I still don't support the change. I don't see why some special exceptions can't be made (buckskin pps!) and just make them special. I don't see why it has to be all or nothing. I know someone will be unhappy regardless... it just really hits other equine collectors and myself more than the other players. I think the people who really love the site equines and all their quirks are the ones voting no and all the people who focus on other species or just on the site overall are for the changes. And since the equines are not the most popular species, the minority that loves them is going to be overruled by the indifferent majority and it just kinda stinks.

Exactly! A few would look better, but the old lines give it charicter and charm!

Yes- I also feel like they aren't as rare anymore... is that just me?

no its not. These old lines are hard to come by today and the newer ones are found with absolutly everyone, I am seriously not kidding. I think this change would decrease the value of the ponies substantually.

-tackleglomps you as well-
That's an awesome analogy as well o: especially considering that I'm sure some people consider CS to be their "safe haven", and a house is generally supposed to be a "safe haven" (if you're not in a dormitory, where do most of you guys go home to sleep?)

... I just hope that someone puts up an old archive before the horses change (if they do, that is) xD

I would like only the drafts updated. If we changed the horses It would seem that everything equineimagine did was for wast and the old horses would seem less special.
Birds, Reptiles, and The Elder Scrolls, and my drawing tablet, basically are all I need in life.

The problem with your house analogy is that we don't know the house has termites or is rotted... We simply heard a creak and know it is old.. and we want to go build a whole other house???? Based on what?

Furthermore.. We don't own the house. The owner of the house has simply asked us if we want to redecorate or not.. and people are beginning to panic and ask for another house altogether.. just "in case" there are termites.. .. and just "in case' something rotted... there is a total lack of information on the foundation of the house.. so let it go..

Just let the owner know if you want it to be redecorated... It's really that simple..

You can't please everyone. I personally adore the current pony lines. I'm not saying you can't have your opinion about which is better, but when you start saying things like "change the new lines"... well, not only is that a TON more work for the artists, but then you'd also upset people like me who like the new ponies and are mainly voting to change the old ones because of copyright issues.

LOCW_Bluestarwarrior wrote:Eh, the CS horses have never been the most popular with me. But I do like the older ones, and since we are looking into a future of new lines, in a little while, the old lines will be harder to come by, and it won't be a problem. Simply, the amout of new lined horses will overrun the old ones.

Just like the old, sitting cat lineart. They changed that, but all those cats stayed the same. And I do not see the need to change them. I know I'd be very unhappy if you did.

So I just say keep the horses. They can be a relic of CS's past, and the rarity will increase. Why fix it if it isn't broken? ;)

~

Because, in this case, it is broken...
