Alright, I originally said yes to the transformation, but now I've seen some really good points being made. Changing these horses is like Greek/Roman mythology. At first there were the Greeks, the old and most powerful of the time, then along came to Romans and tore down the Greek empire, basically taking the Greek gods and changing them. If we didn't have the technology we had today, most of the Greek's history would be lost. It's the same with the horses, if we change them, then our history, the history of CS will be changed as well. Imagine how confused the new members would be when the older members would be taking about 'the great horse change' or something like that. There would be no history or anything to dignify that these horses even existed! Besides, the newer horses aren't exactly my favorite of CS pets. I personally like the older design better.

Getting a little Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit, eh?

While it's true Romans did take a lot from the Greece, keep in mind Horace above. Greece was still a major cultural mecca, and the 'best things' to the Romans in terms of art, music, plays and sophistication were still very much GREEK. The Romans definitely melded their gods in with the Greek ideal - but it's a pattern they repeated all over the place, and it went both ways. You could perhaps even say that the Greek gods overrode 'traditional' Etruscan gods, as Romans are borne out of that mix, and in fact proudly considered themselves descendants of Troy (which is decidedly Greek).

Since they held the Greeks in such high esteem, the Romans spent a lot of their time studying their culture - and preserving it. Greek was the second-most-spoken language in Rome (the 'lingua franca', if you will), and many famous Greek philosophers did a large part of their work in Rome itself.

...Right, now that I've gotten my Classics nerd on, maybe we can find a better analogy. c:

To me, this is like a historic house. A landmark that all the townspeople love. However, it's shaky on its foundations, there are termites in the wood, and some of the old beams are being eaten away by 'rot'. (All of these blows are the many reasons for changing the lineart - aesthetics, sharing items, the question of if something has been traced or not, etc.) Now we have a choice - either do nothing and just hope the house doesn't fall down around our ears, or we can call in some builders to fix the problem.

The builders won't be able to do an exact replica. But they'll be able to get the house much safer to live in, and much more beautiful to boot. It just won't be quite the same.

We will still be able to look at photographs of what the original house was like. People will remember what it is like. People can talk about it and share those photographs with others. It's just that we decided to repair the house so we could live in it more comfortably.

I think that's entirely acceptable for a house that we don't have to worry about. c:

I love this so much, I agree <3

Everything in this post.

And Ga, CS wouldn't be making any decisions on the matter if the photograph owner filed a complaint. They wouldn't have any choices whatsoever. It would be better, however, to change the lines NOW and save the designs themselves instead of waiting for that complaint and watching the horses, design and all, disappear for good.

The horses and ponies would look so boring with the changes, though. :(

CS was born in April 2008, under the name Silent Wolf Kennelz. Pets weren't account bound then, and the first set to be released were the 08 Advent litter. They were not individual pets either, they all shared a common code. It wasn't until July 2008 that Chicken Smoothie made individual pets that could later be added to user accounts.

You can read more about CS's early history here: http://solloby.deviantart.com/art/Sollo ... -108315311

That is only the 2008 chapter though, so Equimage's lines aren't mentioned there. I guess they are in another chapter. They will always be a part of CS, and will be forever remembered. Updating the designs to Yulynh lines won't erase CS's history, it will just add another chapter to the book. And the original artwork won't be forgotten, they will surely be recorded somewhere.

Probably phrased that question wrong, whoops.
As an 08 member, I know the "history" of CS; but it's not history, really. It's what adopts were made, some changes, and a few little scandals here and there. What I'm saying is, how many people come on CS and say, "Wow, I want to learn all about how this site was before I joined!"
There just aren't many people. Now that I've said this, I know a ton of people will respond saying they would look at it, but honestly, no one really seemed to care before. In fact, no one seemed to care about the lines in general before this. People who previously stated in their trade rules that they wanted no equi horses are now telling us that we shouldn't change them because of their "value", or whatever.
Anyways, I'm just trying to get at the fact that no one cared about the value or whatever of these lines before they were threatened to be changed.

Oh yeah, I do agree with you - Equimage horses & ponies have a low trade value, regardless of what people are saying now. And almost nobody is really interested in CS history, otherwise there would have been suggestions for a CS History page where all of the important stuff that happened each month / year is recorded in a timeline. But they haven't because really, nobody cares. That little book was a gift for Tess, and I am very glad I made it because reading through it now, there's a lot of stuff in there that I didn't remember. But apart from the few 08 users around that vaguely remember those times and want a hit of nostalgia, I doubt many others would be interested in reading about that sort of stuff.

Either way, an update to the Yulynh lines would add to CS's history, not take anything away. You can't erase history.

My point exactly. I really enjoy the old lines and I always have. I have to say the designs were meant for their lines, not the current ones.

Postby van » Tue Mar 19, 2013 12:37 pm

quick question, how will the outcome be decided?
if, for example, the decision was finalized based on the poll now, with 51% in favor of the change - would the change really be carried through, or would the overwhelming majority need to be in favor of the idea?

Gà. wrote:The reason it is irrelevant is because if they WERE traced CS wouldn't give us a CHOICE.

and even if they weren't traced, would the photographer/etc. give it a second thought? of course not, because the evidence highly supports that they were and the images could still easily be removed due to copyright issues. can you prove they weren't traced? i highly doubt it, and there's strong evidence suggesting they were. whether they were traced or it was just a coincidence [which is highly unlikely] doesn't matter when it comes down to it.
