The foal is obviously traced.

People need to realize that this is art theft and it was blatantly traced off, not just "aww i like this lineart, why would you even change anyways?!"

This could have just been a refference. Or the foal could have just plopped it's self down on the ground and everyone's saying it's a trace. Just like I said. You can't acctually proove that this is a trace, can you?
[/quote]
Can you prove it's not traced? Why take the risk of getting into trouble with the law?

Okay.. after reading literally tons of reactions I have determined there are categories of opinions..

1) "I dont like the old lineart/like the new.. so yes to changing them. Or I love the uniqueness of the different linearts.. so no to changing them."
This is a matter of opinion obviously. Both are valid. IMO. I do, however, hate to see the attitude.. "thats fine as long as it is not Malks designs." Whatever....

2) "OMG CS is gonna be sued.. the site is shutting down !!!!"
IMO Totally invalid.. If CS was in any trouble, Tess would NOT be giving us a choice. There would not be a vote on this. Please stop with the paranoia. She very directly asked us our vote for the sake of uniformity... specifically mentioned.

3) " I like the old lineart and would normally want to keep it, however, for the sake of the reputation of CS.... and also to avoid any more accusations, I will vote yes to changing it." or " I love the old lineart and things have been quiet regarding the accusations in the last 3-4 years, so why change the history of CS when nothing is requiring us to do so? Just leave them alone." "Changing linearts after we work to get them is wrong."

IMO Both of these are valid points.. and I can certainly see both sides..

My personal opinion is not to change them ... unless there is a theft issue with them. Someone's dumb opinion on some site does not count. Something legit.. and something we (CS users) would not know about.. only Tess and a few others truly know what is going on with the art theft issue. It is and should be a "behind the scenes" issue.

I have confidence Tess will deal with it as she did when we had the issue with the Warrior Cats. I really don't believe she would give us a choice if she believed it was a problem. It was incredibly brave and very nice of her to even give us a choice.... *shock*

Anyways.. after all of this rambling.. It is probably moot. It looks like the yes's are out-weighing the no's.. So all I have left to say is ...

^^^^^Pleeeeeessseee do not change the Donkeys !!!!! ^^^^^
I love that lineart so much.. He looks so annoyed and grumpy .. just the way a donkey should look.

I personally would prefer keeping it the way it is, because equimagine is now a retired line and therefore more "special" and worth more. Many people who love her lines or have a dreamie on her lines might get upset. Iv'e always LOVED her lines (they seem a bit more playful and cartoonish, while the Yunlyah horses are more serious and not as free looking - not that its a bad thing!) and they seem to have different kind of feeling to them that contributes to CS.
If they are removed, I personally would feel like CS was missing a little part of it's history.

Why is the concept of Equimagine's lines being art theft driving people crazy while, on here, anyone can directly copy a photo by drawing an art piece on the Oekaki and get away with it?

If that happens, and the person who took the photo is not contacted and does not give permission for it to happen, then you should report it, as it's art theft.

However most artists who do photorealism on the oekaki take all their own reference photos, or reference from life. (I know that is certainly what Oofay does.)

but they've explained why the warrior cats were okay? They actually weren't, but the author was like "I won't make you take them down if you stop calling them warrior cats" Or, that's how I understood it at the time.

Yep, Akebai. That's how it went. Warrior Cats can't be called Warrior Cats, but since they're natural colors and whatnot, we can keep them even if they were based off of a verbal reference.

But making your own lineart and designs for a book character, and calling them the same name is a lot different than actually tracing and copying someones photograph to make your art. The warrior book can't really copyright the designs themselves sense it's a book - there can be a lot of differen't looks to the cats depending on the reader. If I'm even making sense..

EDIT: Ninja'd.

Maybe change the horses (cause they look kinda weird), but keep the ponies and drafts so as not to kill the PPSs, or the drafts.

This. Completely. If this was coming up because there was a risk of us losing the pets or of CS getting sued, then it wouldn't even be coming up. There would be a post telling us they were getting changed because of copyright issues. Tess would not be risking the whole site for no reason.

Edit to add: As much as I hate the idea of changing the line-arts, I think if they're going to change one then they need to change them all. Why should some pets get changed due to someone having attachment to it when there are also people attached to another one that will be changed? I think even the Roadkill PPS needs to get changed, but into a line-art all its own.
