We're giving you the option to vote on whether you want to see the change. The fact that the lines are compromised is a big part of it [I think] and should be a factor in how people vote.
Twilight, please stop posting such rude things. We're allowing you the opportunity to vote, stop being rude.

I really think we should stop arguing about this and perhaps stop discussing the art theft topic, since this is not what the thread is for, and a moderator has even aid this before. ^^;
Twilight, you're kind of posting rude things, just saying. :l
Also, putting my two-cents out there; why vote no? Tess/Nick could easily place a section in the archives to view the linearts or come up with a way to allow us to switch back to the old linearts. If this is done, I see really no problem with it.

A very fair point. One of the first things they tell you about leadership is to lead by example. How can CS expect member artists to follow the minute regulations of the art boards if they still have official lineart floating around that doesn't follow those rules? Not that I expect there will be a revolution of artists breaking rules "because of the unfairness" or anything, but it doesn't seem very fair.

I suspect the growing stages from December 18 are one of the reasons this is being done now - previously there were only one or two equimagine horses that got re-released (thus being active adoptables again, despite the lines themselves being retired), but now that those horses are getting older and rarer, more are likely to be added to the re-release box, including ones with foal lines that are known to be at least referenced from photos. That would mean that either the copied foal lines get re-released or the designs have to be redone on new lines to prevent the dodgy ones from being adopted out again. When they were retired and only existed in the archive with no use of them for a couple of years, it wasn't such an issue, but when they might be getting released again this Christmas? That puts them in active use again, which is far more likely to anger the photographers than when the foals were just dormant archive images.

It took over a year for Warrior Cats creators to find CS. With each year that passes, there's a greater chance of those photographers wandering into our corner of the internet and discovering those lines.
Also:
Atwood wrote:[snip]
CS wouldn't be shut down over the lines, but what could very easily happen if a copyright claim was made is that every single pet on the lines in question would have to be immediately deleted. No line change, no replacements, just zap so all you'd have is an error box in place of a pet. This could happen even if the lines weren't traced and simply resembled the photo, as with the grey horse photo, if they had enough evidence of "see, these people say it's traced and it looks close enough to me, so I'm pressing the suit and filing a DMCA on it".
Another site I go on had a DMCA complaint filed. The artists had 24 hours to replace the image, or worse legal stuff could happen (I can't remember the details since it's been... a year or so, I think). So yeah, the DMCA thing could easily lead to the loss of a whole bunch of images without warning.
Just throwing that out there. ^_^
*jumping to this DMCA debate as I'm on the same site with nickjr*
This whole issue with the lines has me conflicted. On one hand, I believe it's a good idea to change them for the sake of the issue above. On the other, I do really like some of the older horses for their lineart, especially the old PPS.
DMCA complaints can be found on ANY grounds. On the other site, the picture (an avatar dress) in question, looked nothing alike yet the artists were still forced to change it. That being said, they still took inspiration from the original design and take inspiration from images of clothing for items they release now. The way DMCA complaints operate heavily favors the person who files the complaint.

^ Kitten I can't read your post, I'm using the Squiddy forum colours and your post is basically light grey on light grey. You might want to use a darker colour when you post.
There's still a third of the CS population not happy about changing the lines despite knowing about this referencing issue (or they simply didn't read the first post before voting). Do you guys think this update from Tess will help decrease that number? Will this make the Maybe/No people happier to say Yes/Maybe?

I see some questions, answers, and arguments being repeated over and over and over in this topic. If there is anything that you're unsure of, please just read through the topic first to see if what you're looking for has already been covered.
We have noticed that it seems like the main concerns so far are about a few favorite pets like the PPS ponies and the rainbow mane changing. If the opinion remains divided then we may re-vote with new conditions such as keeping the PPS ponies and have special line edits for things like the rainbow mane horse so that it still looks good on the new lines.

An option to switch to the old linearts would be amazing O_o. Literally the perfect compromise. Although I can't imagine the strain that would put on the server, having to alternate for each person. I doubt it could be implemented efficiently without defeating the purpose of this project...

I'm sure someone will put one together if there is not an official one. :)

This has been suggested numbers of times, I'm not sure if it's possible or the admins would want that to be an option.
