To be honest I kind of liked the old-style Equimagine ponies rather than the new ones - they're just more appealing to me, but I do kind of like the Yulyhn linearts for the horses better. I think it'd be kind of cool to do the update and maybe a re-release of the old designs on the new linearts([..]

The old images would just be replaced, we wouldn't release a new entire batch of horses with the same designs as the old ones. ^^;

Another option would be having, say, a checkbox or something that would allow a user to freely change which lineart they prefer on the same pet/image, though that would take more coding work and might be more work than staff are either willing or able to go to. I know that's something that can be done, but as I'm not an expert on programming I'm not entirely sure how difficult that would be.

About the idea of people being able to choose. Maybe it should be a setting for each user to choose for that they could view the pets as either new or old. There would be no confusion in trading because the horses would be in the line art that you choose yourself regardless of what the owner has choosen for them. Say I choose equimagine. All my old horses are still in the equimagine line art for me and if I look at someone's elses they are also equimagine even if the owner has chosen the Yulynh line art for theirs to me they would still look like equimagine. For the owner they would look like Yulynh and my horses would look like Yulynh horses to them.

There is honestly no good answer to this from me.

I hoard some of the equi drafts because I like the way they look. They look like they're actually working. The new drafts may be prettier but they just aren't as inspiring to me. The implied motion of the drafts inspired me to write short stories and to hoard outcomes. I don't want to lose my hoards over this by losing the very reason they were created.

I appreciate the ability to have them all uniform and having items that will fit with all horses, but I do think the RBM just won't look as good on the new lines. I'm worried that my collection will lose value over this change as I do hoard RBMs for their look.

I am excited to see the new zebras, unicorns and PPS but there are no examples of those yet, so I'm not sure how to make a decision based on something I haven't seen yet.

Yes, I know the reason for this change, but if that reason is ignored and pushed off as, "We just want the prettier art" then I could make loads of arguments for other CS lines to be changed "because it's prettier"

That would actually be amazing if they could code that! Sort of like with the pet rarities showing up beneath the pets, right?

Yup.
And what one person considers "prettier", someone else is always going to think is "ugly" or whatever else. I'm sure we could all go on a tangent all day about it, but the bottom line is that some people will love the change and others will hate it. Some people might join up for it - others may flat-out leave as there are some(maybe not a huge majority but some none the less) niches of users who care about the equines on this site most of all, above dogs and cats or other "popular" pets and linearts.
Frankly I wouldn't mind seeing new linearts of many already-existings species or linearts for new species altogether, but I'm sure tons of people would pounce on me saying that they'd never want a new dog lineart or a new whatever-else lineart because they love the old ones, and a bunch more people would agree to wanting something Shiny and New.
My point being: just going by the "because it's prettier" argument doesn't really do the situation much justice(to me, at least) because whether someone likes or doesn't like something or thinks it's "Better" is all a matter of personal opinion.

And like it's been said time and time again already, a lot of users just flat-out don't care.

The coding for that would be much, much harder. I actually think it'd take a lot less coding to make them choosable, honestly.
While I do like the idea, the coding just seems like it'd be much more difficult than other ideas I've seen tossed out there.

Perhaps I should edit the front page, since the idea to choose between the two linearts on the page has been brought up several times. I don't know if it's an option, I'm not sure if it's able to be coded, but many, many people have already brought it up.
