I'm gonna minimod but I don't care.
This isn't the topic to argue over the ethics and nuances of art theft, copyright violation, the differences between reference and tracing, and the like nor is it the topic to argue over whether she traced or not. Some feel she has, some feel she hasn't.
The issue at hand is whether or not to change the Equimagine horses. Some feel that past art theft is a reason to do so, that's okay. Some think the art doesn't reflect CS's current standards, that's okay. Some are attached to their old horses, that's okay. Some feel that artistic effort would be better expended elsewhere, that's okay.
I'm pretty sure the point of this topic is so everyone can put their opinions on the table for the staff to consider, not to try and "win" internet fights.
I'll stop being pretentious and minimoddy now.

After reading the posts and seeing the comparison, explanations and all those I couldn't vote for anything other than yes. So even though it will be hard to part with my actual draft lineart I will just hope that it will be for the best AND that there will be more drafts being released. And soon. And since I'm new and such, could someone tell me why there are no more shima-luan pets? Or even Malk? I miss my owls...

I completely agree with this. I do like the looks of the old designs on the new lineart, but I would hate to see a part of CS history go away. I say keep the old pets the way they are, but please do use the new draft lines. They are gorgeous and I would love to see them used to make new pets. ;)

Malk and Shima.Luan are both retired artists, therefore we cannot use their lineart for any future designs.
Looks like someone fell asleep at the tea party...

Malk retired and their linearts were retired a short time afterward. I'm not sure about Shima though, sorry.

Saphire<3Drarry wrote:For the most part, this tracing concept really bugs me. I know many artists who use realistic animals for their artwork. It's not called art theft. And no one should have rights to a picture of a horse honestly, because just because someone got lucky and caught an excellent shot of a horse, doesn't mean it's theirs alone to love. And I know plenty of artists who could see something once and recreate it later without having to copy it. So she liked their appeal. So do we. I don't think C.S would get shut down over it. Nor do I believe the art should go away.
Photography is art. If Equi could trace a photographers hard work and get away with it, I should be able to trace the CS dog designs and do as I please with them. Kindly don't drag the whole "lucky shot" thing in here. Photography is undeniably an art form, and she violated copyright.
It's not CS history. It's a smear on the record books.

I second this. Seriously.
I totally agree. It makes me terribly sad. I've grown so attached to my old little darlings. If they changed, they wouldn't seem familiar anymore. I think I might just give them away if they change, because it's too upsetting...
I'm sorry if I'm souning whiney, but I'm just giving my opinion c: Thank you. I hope you'll take our words into consideration.
And also, some of you are saying Equinmagine's designs are ugly. I'm sorry Equinmagine, you creations are beautiful. <3

I say don't. They are perfect how they are. Being like that makes them special! They aren't drawn like that anymore, so it's awesome to have forses like that! They are truly amazing. I don't think you should change it!

I am slightly annoyed by some of the hypocrisy on this thread, I know Equi's pets, even when they were being made weren't popular, they have zero demand, and I only know a few hoarders of them, where with Yulyhn I know scads of hoarders, and I find they are more popular and easier to trade off. I say go for it, I will miss some of the pets, but I will love more.
