Fanclub II Roleplay II Artist Competition
What is a 'Gee-Gaw'?
Gee-Gaw are medium-large creatures that appear to have the features of both canines and felines. For instance, while their personality bone, and body structure is mostly like that of a canine, they possess thick, short legs and a long, flexible tail like that of a feline. The muscles in their hind legs are also well developed, giving them advanced jumping capabilities.
Males are larger and heavier than females by up to 15lbs and 5inches. They are a strong, proud species that are known for the trinkets that they tend to carry around on the end of their long, flexible tails. They get their name from the word 'Gee-Gaw', which is a term for a showy yet usually worthless item, which could be used to describe their trinkets.
They have bony growths on the backs of their front legs and on the base of their tail. Because of these it was thought that the species was once covered in a heavy bone-like armour but have lost it due to evolution and adaptation.
Because Gee-Gaw have such short pelts they use their manes and tail-tufts to keep themselves warm by curling up. They're a sociable creature so on cold nights, members of packs will curl up together to share their body warmth. This is especially useful for the pups, which are born with reasonably little mane.
Gee-Gaw, on a whole, are omnivorous however a majority of their diet consists of meat. Plant-matter is only eaten to promote healthy digestion and to aid nutrition. Herbs and certain berries may also be consumed to help with sickness.

General Info
- Can come in just about any colour with any markings/patterns. Greens, bright reds/blues and purples are only found in eye colours and as park of markings.
- Youngsters always seek out a trinket of small sort which then hangs from the end of their tails. Trinkets can be anything, ranging from pebbles and gemstones to bones and feathers and serve primarily as a source of identification and courtship. These trinkets stay with their owners for their entire lives, unless it becomes damaged. Because of the uniqueness of each trinket, some may refuse to replace damaged or lost trinkets.
- Many Gee-Gaw are very competitive; they love to have fun sparring matches with one another.
- Both sexes possess a lion-like mane as well as the usual one that runs along the back of their neck.
- Pups do not start to grow their manes until they are 8 weeks old. While the neck mane usually finishes growing by the time an individual is 16 weeks, the lion-esque mane is very slow growing and therefore won't stop growing until an individual is around five years. Because of this it is relatively easy to figure out the age of a youngster.
- There are significantly fewer females of this species; only about 25% of the population is female. Funnily, females tend to make up pack majority.
- Parents may move around with their pups safely tucked inside their manes, which is both an easier but riskier way of transporting and protecting them.
