So. This Equine Transformation project. Hmm.

I like the examples that Tess has given of transformed horses BUT. And this is a very big BUT:

1) I really like the original Equimagine linearts. The horses look like racehorses, I haven't traded so much to get the old linearts to complete my own Racehorse Project just to see all that effort torn to shreds! And because I will not like the transformed horses, I will want to trade them, and of course no-one (I do purposefully use a generic term here, dramatizing a bit) will want them because I was one of the few active users/traders who actually collected horses to start with. Don't get me wrong, I like the new Yulynh linearts too; but I don't like them for the same reason; I didn't make a 5000 Yulynh horse hoard on one hand and a Racehorse Project with the old Equimagine linearts on the other hand for nothing!

2) The original Equimagine ponies look like nice cute welsh/connemara ponies, and that's what I love about them! And the new Yulynh ponies are just as cute, but they are more generic and Shetland/Chincoteague horses, and that's what I love about /them/. I love the fact that I can have two pony breeds/types. I also made nice project groups according to his fact. If the old ponies are all converted to Yulynh ponies, that will be like a betrayal - why want to destroy the difference? Do people hate Welsh ponies that much?

3) There are a few horse and pony designs that Equimagine had made that find quite a few resemblances with the current Yulynh ponies; I take for example the Rockstar/Rave-ish Equimagine ponies from '09, who if converted would look darn well too much like Yulynh's own Rave or even the "rainbow against black" ponies. I wouldn't want to have three times the same-looking litter!

4) I am sure that other user will recognize themselves here. When the Equimagine unicorns came out, I hoarded them, one of my very first hoards if not the first. I hoarded them because I liked them; and maybe I will also like the Transformed versions, but they will no longer be the pets I had first hoarded, as if they had a new soul - the old soul gone to the void, let the new soul take over. I'm not sure if anyone gets my meaning xD It would be a bit of the same with all the other old Equimagine horses, no?

5) As for the draft horses... Example: I really can't see the appeal of my '10 Easter bunny-draft turned into anything else than what it already is; the beauty of that draft horse is its design and /lineart/, and changing that would make me wonder what the point of Equimagine's efforts was in the first place.

6) The CS economy. It is there, it exists. Some are dissatisfied with it at the moment. But (no matter how few!) users who really, really like the old linearts and want to collect them, maybe even hoarded them, suddenly finding their old beloved linearts transformed into the new Yulynh ones which they potentially don't like at all, and thus would try to trade away, and then we would have all sorts of rare potentially unwanted horses flooding the CS market, sitting in trade groups, etc, simply heightening the sense of dissatisfaction and the frustration of traders.

7) Sure, it would be nice sometimes to dress my Equimagine Racehorse with a hood from the Medieval Faire horse accessories only compatible with Yulynh horses, but I would in no way want anyone to change the Equimagine lineart for all of that! Just as in real life I would like to dress my horse with a one of those cute shiny colorful horse halters or with a nice new Dressage saddle, but the fact is that my horse is a half-draft, and yet I would not sell him simply because it's harder to find the right tack for him, I would prefer to ride him bareback than sell him and get another normal-sized horse with the same bay coloring (aka not dress up my Equimagine horse at all rather than dress up a compatible-lineart yulynh horse with the same coloration).

This out of my system, I also must make some other points, to be in all sincerity: I really don't like the second Equimagine horse linearts. If those were converted to Yulynh horse linearts I wouldn't mind, and quite prefer it. But for *looks for proper non-explicit deity* Totoro's sake, PLEASE do NOT convert the original Equimagine horse and pony linearts, nor the unicorns! I would be simply disgusted to see the destruction of that art. Because it would be like destroying art, CS is an art/design trading website in a way, and seeing these artworks being erased would be like witnessing half the collection at my National Arts Museum being burned on a bonfire because some museum director found that there were too many different types of art/collections. To continue the metaphor, I must admit that I find that the most recent $2million acquisition of my museum is a complete waste of money and I really don't like the paiting, but is that a reason to repaint it different colors or throw it in the garbage bin? Some people like contemporary art, I don't; some people don't like the old Equimagine horses, I do. A lot.

Maybe it's all rather sentimental for a bunch of pixels; perhaps I'm also being rather sentimental towards that Gauguin or that Picasso although they are just a bunch of pigments, canvas and oil base, after all.

I understand that there is difficulty with item conversion and compatibility. How about this: those items that don't fit PPS dogs when
they do the adults, or house cats when they do the Warrior cats, or Malk Dogs when they don't fit Malk Wolves, are those a reason to make all same-species linearts uniform? Dress-up users often don't even use dog-compatible items to dress dogs up (for example the Store Unicorn Sets' manes isntead of wigs), or use dog-exclusive items to dress, say, chicks, and that doesn't bother them much, in fact the creativity of the sport is the important part of dressing up. I don't ask nor expect that the CS staff convert every single item to be compatible with all the different types of horse linearts! They have a life too xD

Whoa, very long. Thanks to anyone who reads this, and I hope that I haven't offended anyone :?

For lack of my gratis versus libre, let me say that I fully support a change to new lines. The old ones simply don't look as good, and these ones have much better shading. It will help make the site look more organized, and keeping the old art really has no benefits.

Has no benefits? Preserving CS history, keeping some gorgeous lines, keeping the site diverse?

I personally thought it was hypocritical for the old lines to stay on site in the first place. Art theft is a big deal here, as it should be, so at the very *least* the very first set of equi lines should be replaced from a legal standpoint.

It will always be a part of us as a site, and I imagine the old images will remain in the archive in some form. But this could be a step in the right direction for CS. Change can be uncomfortable for some users--personally, it freaked me out when the rarity bars changed--but after people get used to it I think we will all be better off. The new linearts are more uniform and (in my opinion) more anatomically accurate and well-drawn. I sincerely hope this change goes through.

Exactly this^
As I said once before. For those users who were around back when Malk had their old linearts, the change to the new ones was uncomfortable at first. People were upset because their pets had changed. But looking back, it was a good change. And people got over it.

I agree with all of this. ^^

I really hope the new change happens, the designs will look so much better, cleaner and clearer on these lines! I also hoard certain horses and love to dress them up in horse tack and such! ;w;

I think it's interesting. c:

I support the change for many reasons. And as for this;

see, if we were converting all the equimagine horses into one set of equimagine's lines, I would be okay with that.
But
we're converting all the equimagine lines into Yulynh lines
nope nope nope

I'm not sure what you mean here (not trying to start an arguement here, just stating my opinion) - every artist does their designs on Tess's dog lines. Every artist has been doing their designs on Yulynh's lines for what was it, 2 years? How is it different that we're putting Equi's designs on Yulynh's lines?

RavenclawHobbit wrote:But from my experience, the equimagine linearts have really awful demand. Lots of people have in their rules things like "No rats, no spiders, no equimagine pets". If anything, I think switching to the more popular lineart will make them go up in value, not the other way around.

Also, I strongly agree with this. Though some people like the old lineart, I have tons of them lying around in my trade group because very few people want them. If I can get my trade group flow started again I'd be very happy. c:

    I think this duscussion should stay on this topic. Now you can read everywhere "Please let them stay in this line art."
    I don't understand that. Everyone has their own opinion and this doesn't belong to most of the topics this were posted. >.<

I think we need to stop with the whole "cs history" stuff, it's not that big of a deal.
They already said that we can save the pets to our computer in the old lines and that there will still be an old
Archive of them.
