Changes to a CS Rat design

Hey everyone,

it was recently brought to our attention that one of our CS rat's coloration looked similar to an Aywas pet. In fact, that's because both of them were made by the same artist. Our guest artist SoulWings is an official artist for Aywas.



She made a red, black, and gold design for Aywas and liked the color palette so much she decided to use it again for her CS rat litter. As the colors and markings alone aren't copyrightable, she never imagined she would upset anyone by reusing them. She didn't intend to replicate the design on CS rats, the Aywas version had a very intricate pattern of gold markings which are not the same as the random swirls on the CS rat.

However, some of our users felt that one of the rats looked like a simplified version of the original Aywas design. The markings are not the same, and just follow standard uncopyrightable patterns, but overall the effect is a little similar. So, to remove the similarities, she's now swapped the red and black coloration for our CS rat.

This new version will replace the original soon. I'm sorry if you owned this rat and don't like the new version. Personally, I think it looks great, and I hope most of you will agree

Awe yep </3 sory about the trouble guys, sense it was originally my deign and so on, i dint think using one of my favorite palettes of the time would be a problem at all.

If its the same artist and not a copyrighted design, WHY did it have to be changed?

I am sad that people got so up in arms about it that it had to be changed, but I think I like the new design better than the old.
The darker back makes the gold stand out more. xD

my question exactly.
and if people had beef with the original, why wouldn't they have beef with this changed one? i mean, if they're going to be that nitpicky, this technically looks like the pet still- just the underside of the wing or the horns, maybe.
i like both designs, but i really don't see why this was necessary or why people even got upset in the first place.
