The world is different now.
Years into the future, humankind have discovered a parallel existence where ghostly imprints of people and places on Earth are mimicked in exquisite detail. These ghosts of people did not think or feel – they were just illusions.
But then, they started to mutate – the colours became more vibrant, the images became more real, until they were just like living and breathing people.
Some people argued that these Shadows, as they came to be known, weren’t real, were just an illusion, others that they loved and felt pain just the same as themselves. But no one could tell for sure. So, for many years, the Shadows and humans lived in an uneasy peace – each stayed in their own, minded their own business.
Then, the Shadows started to develop powers – strange, magical powers - and the humans started to be afraid.
Eventually, the humans decided that the Shadows were to be kept in a safe house, a house of glass run by computers of the latest technology. The Shadows were tricked, imprisoned in this high-tech palace, and the humans were satisfied. But now, the computers that were once cutting edge are starting to run down, and a strange darkness is slowly infiltrating the two worlds...
The Glass Palace
The ‘palace’ in which the Shadows inhabit is a strange structure, built out of glass and steel. The rooms are constantly changing, which gives the impression that the building is ‘alive’, in a way. The rooms, nicknamed ‘pods’ by some, are circular, built out of white plastic and steel. The furniture is very much the same in each bedroom: a steel bedframe with uniform grey and white bedding, a metal wardrobe and to finish, a glass desk and plastic stool.
There is a strange lack of windows in the place, although much of it is built out of glass.
