I don't know what's wrong with me.
I used to think Greyfriars Bobby and The House of Dies Drear books were utterly boring.
But now they're awesome.
Am I sick?

Everyone's taste in music - and books and movies and, and well, everything - changes.
Don't worry, you're not sick ;], just changing.
I've never heard of those books before - what genre/s are they?
I might be interested in reading them.
I need to keep reading the fault in our stars but I have other books to read as well. ono

Favourite Book: "maximum is three" Really? Um, well then, The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula K. Le Guin. There are more books and short stories in the Earthsea series, but this was the copy I had. The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger and also Soulless, Book One of the Parasol Protectorate Series by Gail Carriger. They're all super but in very different ways.
Favourite Author: John Green, for obvious reasons, he's wonderful, and Ursula K. Le Guin, she inspired me so much and brought me to see a whole new way of writing.
Why you love to read: Because not only is it an escape from the world that can make time seem irrelevant and the world seem far away, but also it's such an enjoyable thing, getting to feel for a character and really learn the emotions and thoughts of another, albeit fictional, person.
Why you joined: First things first because I love reading for the most part, and because you seemed like a lovely group of people. Not only that but i'm quite bored of just saying to my friends, 'oh wow, this book brought me to tears' and then them either ignoring me or not understanding. I'd like to find people who can understand the feelings I cherish and can show me new avenues of reading.

I already read almost all of the Warrior series. They're pretty good. At the end, though, The Last Hope is a bit, well not as good as I expected. I think I might try Life as we knew it.

Favourite Book: The Harry Potter books, or the Inheritance series.
Favourite Author: Jay Asher or Christopher Paolini.
Why you love to read: Honestly, I'm not really sure. Maybe it's because the friends you make in books never leave you, or maybe it's because books can take you somewhere you could never go otherwise.
Why you joined: This just seems like the place created just for me. I live in a very small town, so we don't have a book club, but I've always wanted to join one. I love to read books that others recommend, because maybe it changed them in some way, and maybe it can change me in the same way.

just a small notice - please please people, do not post unless you have been accepted. it doesn't take longer than two - five minutes to fill out a form and then post it but some of you have't. please don't disregard it - fill it out.
some of you mentioned not finding tfios - well, to not stop you from reading it i did a bit of searching and found this. you can tfios online or download it as an ebook. so - hopefully - that means all of you whom were unable now can read the book with us.
okay, so, i know the questions are a little late but i've been busy. hopefully you can forgive me ^-^ this week (those of you who read it) hopefully have read chapters one to seven of the fault in our stars. now i open discussion to it and hope to spark things off with the questions below. feel free to not answer them but it'd be great to hear what you think and also, feel free to continue discussing other books. this is our book of the month but not everyone has read it so i don't want to discourage you guys from talking about books; whatever they are. this is, after all, a book club.

Obviously these questions are long and have several different components to all of them. Answer all of them, none of them, or some of them. Whatever you feel like - it is your choice. However when answering them, answer them as if you have only - if you've read on this is - read the first seven chapters. Don't think 'I don't know if she's a good person. I've only read seven chapters!' that's partly the point. To see how, if at all, your opinions change as you progress through the book.
1] What was your first impression of the book? Did the cover entice you? Did the blurb make you want to pick it up and read it straight away? Did the first few lines force you to keep reading on? Or... did the cover make you yawn? Did the blurb make you want to put it back on the shelf? Did the first few lines make you look for another book?
2] The book is written in first person. Does that appeal to you? Did you find it off-putting in anyway? Were you able to relate more easily to the protagonist - Hazel - or did it make it harder?
3] We learn quite a bit about Hazel in the first few chapters - she's terminally ill, she adores watching America's Next Top Model, she attends support group, she's in love with reading, she doesn't like going out. Did you like this girl? Did you think she was a cliche or a new type of protagonist, and a good one? Could you relate to her or did you find yourself indifferent to her actions and thoughts? Is she a good choice of protagonist? What do you think of her, as a person?
4] Augustus Waters. Tall, lean, gorgeous, literal and interested in Hazel. Is he the cliche? Are his words ones that made you laugh? Cringe? Yawn? Were you able to relate to him? Did you find him a realistic teenage boy or just one made 'perfect' for the purpose of the novel? Should the story be told from his point of view?
5] Is the story a cliche? A girl with cancer, starts to like a guy, has a wish and blah blah blah. We've seen it before - My Sister's Keeper, 50/50, Before I Die, The Immortal Life, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Talk Before Sleep. All cancer stories. But are they like this one? Are they different? Is this one better? Do you think this one stands out?
6] Always. Okay. Words that symbolize something to the characters in the book. Isaac and Monica. Augustus and Hazel. Do these spark any emotion in you? Do you feel that the words do in fact help bind the characters together?
7] The Night of the Broken Trophies. What symbolism do you think this held? Do you think Monica was unfair in dumping Isaac or, like Hazel, you can empathize with her slightly? Was Augustus helping a friend or himself by giving Isaac the basketball trophies to smash and break? What would you have done in a situation like that?
8] When Hazel asked if Augustus had seen her in intensive care, why do you think she didn't want him to see her? Was it selfish of her? Would you have done the same thing? How do you think he felt, not being able to see her?
9] Augustus offers to use his wish to help Hazel fulfill hers - meeting Van Houten. What do you think his motives are behind this? Do you think they should go? Do you think he should use his wish on her? Was the scene written well? Did you find yourself getting excited for the adventure to come? How do you think Hazel should have reacted?
10] John Green writes in a very unique way and covers a lot of topics in his writing that not a lot of other writers do. He writes for teenagers and teenagers love his work. Do you love his work? How could he have improved the first chapters of the book? Could he have improved them? Was there anything there you didn't think was necessary to the story? Are you enjoying it so far? What do you think of the characters? How do you think the plot will progress? Will the trip end with fortune or misfortune? Are Hazel and Augustus good characters? Do you want to continue reading it? What do you think of the style? Do you even like it?
Quite a lot of questions there. Answer them as you wish but make sure all spoilers are tagged, if you've read on.

I recently read the first three books in the Mortal Instrument series, by Cassandra Clare - just put the third book down actually. I'm enjoying it immensely and finding the characters to be well written and developing smoothly. I was wondering if anyone else had read it and what you thought out it? I've only read the first three books though cx But I did read the extract from the fourth and the way Jace acts in it is really annoying me.

Er, I tried that link, and it lead me to something about giving birth.... is that, er, right?
Because I met my best writing/internet buddy through her signature, I decided to list a bunch of things about me. Not that I like making friends. Or that I'm good at it.
Harry Potter; Lord of the Rings; The Hobbit; The Silmarillion; Anything Tolkien Really; My Little Pony; FimFiction; Fanfiction; AppleDash; TwiDash; RariJack; Writing; Poetry; Camp NaNoWriMo; NaNoWriMo; Rabbits; My Pet Rabbit Nali; Slender; Steam; Team Fortress 2; Minecraft; SkyDoesMinecraft; HuskyMudkipz; PewDiePie; Stephano (duh!); Smosh; Ian is Best Smosh; Woona is Best Princess; The Youtubes; Skypes; Scrivener; Movies; Scripts; Award Shows; Elijah Wood aka Frodo; Pippin is Best Hobbit; Tumblr; Shadowlands MC; Tinq.
Take... whatever you want from that. Just, please, no weird, obsessed stalkers, okay?
Okay.*

Before I joined the book club I was, purely coincidentally, reading TFiOS. It had been a birthday present that I had been extremely excited about, but when it got round to it I must say I only actually got a few pages in then gave up, just as I have been doing with several books I've had recently. But after a bit of nagging from the present giver and a 'World Book Day' being celebrated at school I picked it up again. Immediately I was hooked. There's something about Augustus (possibly my girlish fantasies) that makes me want to keep going with the book despite, in regards to question two, the fact that it is written in first person, usually a pet hate of mine.
Oh and hi everyone, thanks for accepting me into the club, yeah I can write quite a bit, I'm just excited about this whole thing c:
