I almost had a heart attack today. Baze looked like had something around his eye so I grabbed him to show it to my mom (she use to be a vet assistant) when it suddenly clouded over in milky red discharge. Of course I freaked and demanded we go to a vet. It kind of went away though, so I have him in his cage with Bug to relax while I take a nap (2 mile bike rides with no sleep make a very tired person)
I went to a feed store today looking for something to fatten Bug up, and the lady gave me these pellets. I gave one to each boy earlier, so my mom thinks it may be a allergic reaction that caused it.

Oh noes! I hope Baze gets better D; try greek yogurt and non-salted sunflower seeds for fattening.. or even lite dog food. it's what I give mine haha.
alsooo..
Bandit is HUGE. Skunk, the black hooded is full grown. Not my biggest girl, but not small either. HE'S JUST MONSTEROUS X__x
A few slap fights here and there, a lot of squeaking and a scratch or two, but he's doing good with the girls and the girls are doing good with him. I found him grooming Danish this morning so I'm happy. just gonna take time for ALL the girls to fully accept that, hey, there's a man in the house haha.
Danish, the mismark possum face.. is like.. YOU.. WILL.. LOVE.. ME..
also..
happy couple! ^-^ my mister man Ocelot & his woman Naomi.

I am SO friggin excited.. I have five adopters waiting, and hoping none back out - I should have all these bubs adopted no problem!
5 isn't that many considering they often have bigger litters than that.
I'm sure Shadi knows that, she is a breeder after all...

Yup, I know five isn't a lot. But considering I don't know how many she'll have, it's a start! Once she has her babies and I have an official gender count, I'll look for the remaining adopters. I have a friend wanting a rat BADLY so I'm going to introduce him to the world of ratties and rat care, so technically.. six adopters =p

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just realistic, and thinking about the rescue litters that we've had here. The smallest was 4 girls but that was a really small litter. I just think it would be best if you had a waiting list of at least 10 or so... at least. They are both lovely ratties.

It's not like Shadi would dump them off at a pet store if she couldn't find them homes right away. She'd keep them until she found them homes, or convienced one of her breeder friends to take a couple. (Based on what she has previously said, I'm assuming that is what she would do.)
I'm pretty sure she knows what she is doing, and it would suck for someone to be on a waiting list and then find out the mother only had 8 so they don't get one right? Or find out there was only 3 males and they can't get one. She's not stupid at all, clearly she knows if she has a large litter she may have to keep a couple for awhile until she finds them homes.
Anyways, Baze is looking great now, but im not going to be putting that food back in with them. I'll find another way to get Bug to gain more weight. You can feel the poor little guys spine when you run your fingers down his back! I can't risk Baze's health by letting them have that food that he had a reaction to though.

I didn't say that she would dump them off at a pet shop.... I know that she wouldn't do that and never suggested that she would. Maybe it's just me but I don't think it is unrealistic to expect to wait for breeder babies if that's where you want to get rats from. Yes it would be dissapointing but you would know that you'd then be on the list for the next litter, whenever that would be.

Maybe you should just stay out of it and let her do as she pleases. There is no cruelty in what is going on so just let it be, I am.
So I have my name down on a litter of Chocolate Irish Velvet bubs. Mother and father are both beautiful rats and I don't think I could go wrong. My first rat from a rep breeder that would be future breeding. Also excited! My certificate got here. I'm now a registered breeder! Its amazing the people who ring now ans are putting names down for next litters and my waiting list is now huge. Still have no litters planned until i can rehome my last litter, which wont take too long.
I have the weirdest rodents. I was playing with my Mouse when one of my male rats decided he would work out an escape point in his new cage. Now the rat and mouse are best friends. I most the rat away, scared one would hurt the other, and the rat just cried. Put them both back on my chest and they cuddled into each other. No idea what to do now lol. Never had the issue of Rats and Mice together and now a rat and mouse love each other....
