Rosa stretched as she prepared for her swim competition.
She took in the nervous conversation around her, but
concentrated on loosening up.
An announcement came over the loudspeaker: “Could all
contestants please make their way to the starting blocks.
Thank you.”
Rosa confidently made her way to the starting block with
her number, 16, in foot-high digits. She stepped up on it
and got ready to dive off.
The starting pistol fired and Rosa dove into the water. She
cut easily through the water and was past the first flags before
anyone else. The audience roared with anticipation as she left
everyone in the dust. Er, the spray.
She touched the wall and turned around. She smiled to see that
she was the only one so far headed back.
When she arrived back at the wall, she jumped out and grabbed
the trophy. The audience went wild! A newspaper reporter asked
her a million questions a minute while a photographer snapped
pictures.
The next morning, Rosa’s picture was on the front page of the
newspaper. the headline read:
Young swim star may go on to Olympics
Rosa smiled. Maybe someday... someday soon.
