I'm having difficulty. I still haven't perfected Lock Alpha. Could you please do your best to explain how to do it when using this lineart?

All of the layers that should/can be colored have the (Alpha Lock) label on them so the are easier to find.
Click.
Basically, you click the box next to Alpha Lock until the check mark is there. The check let's you know that Alpha lock is on. Once the check mark is there, you can then select a layer and start coloring. :-3
Just make sure to un-check the box when you want to erase something. Otherwise, it will make whatever you are trying to erase white.
