Not much is known about Jonothon's life before he discovered his powers, other than the fact that he was dating a girl name Gayle while they lived in the UK. Things ended unfortunately for them when he suddenly combusted one day and his chest and lower face were ignited, causing a powerful blast of energy to not only disfigure himself but cripple Gayle. In utter fear he ran. Jono was not allowed to live a normal life and therefore didn't see much of a point in living because of it.

Luckily Doctor Xavier found and invited the young mutant to join the Massachusetts Academy and become a member of Generation X, a trainee program for "the gifted" that was lead by Banshee and Emma Frost. Jonothon took on the name Chamber and kept himself locked away in the school's basement, closing himself off from the rest of his schoolmates. His control over his powers also suffered after he accidentally destroyed the girl's dormitory when he was kissed by a girl name Paige.

Chamber was also attacked several times by a mutant named Emplate, because he sought to absorb the immense energy he gave off. Many times has he been attacked and many times has his love life suffered because of varying reasons. He's also had trouble sticking with any one team for an extended amount of time, something always goes wrong in the end. Jonothon really just has a bad luck streak, which is why one reason why he's come to Gotham City. He feels that perhaps he should just go at things as a solo hero. He does still want to help people, but simply in a way that he doesn't need to be at any close range of others for an extended period of time. Jonothon must also act as a mute burn victim, not being able to speak to others as he usually would in the mutant community.

Given that he has gone through Hell and back, Jonothon can have a rather downtrodden demeanor. Sometimes he looks at life and wonders what more does he have to deal with before it's finally the end? These types of thoughts can also leave him rather angry at the world, and have caused him to lash out. Chamber has even gone to jail for his temper after he picked a fight with another mutant when he found out he was dating whom he thought to be his girl. Which is another thing, Jono is very protective of those he cares for; he isn't afraid to let loose on his powers to take care of loved ones.

But, because of his recent decline in social interaction, the mutant is very hard to get close to. He's picked a more solitary lifestyle so that others will not become involved with him anymore; though, he's unfortunately still a romantic at heart and has the capacity for love and kindness despite all the pain he's gone through. He's almost hopeless in the sense that it's impossible for him to completely close others off from his feelings and emotions.

Before things really started to go downhill, Jono was very optimistic, even about his own appearance. He figured it gave him a reason to be more sympathetic towards those whom could relate to his situation. He understood the rigidity of the world and all its foul things to say about the way he looked, and looked passed them, not letting his heart become hardened by its close-mindedness. That was probably one of Jonothon's best traits- he could always see the brighter side of things and knew to shut stupid people out.

• Powers •
Psionic Biokinesis: Chamber was a mutant who was naturally composed of pure psionic energy. In truth his physical body was just a shell for what he truly was. The initial emergence of his powers blew a hole in his chest and lower face, completely incinerating most of his internal organs. Because of this, Chamber no longer needed to eat, drink, or breathe. Oddly enough, Chamber's blood did continue to flow through his extremities, as if propelled by a churning engine of psionic flame itself. However, he was sustained solely by the psionic flame that raged within his body. If it were somehow snuffed out, he would most likely have died. But then, he might argue that he already died once, and came back, so his reaction to a disruption of his mutant abilities may still have been unclear. As his flames were actually psionic in nature, and didn't rely on some form of fuel to continue to burn, they didn't seem to be affected by conditions that would be adverse to actual flame (ie. lack of oxygen, water, etc.)

-Biokinetic Flame: Chamber constantly created and unleashed psionic charges of energy that could strike with concussive force, act as generic flame, or cause inanimate objects to explode violently, by forcefully disrupting molecular bonds. It seemed Jono couldn't actively affect molecules containing Carbon in that same explosive manner, but those molecules were still very vulnerable to a direct hit with his biokinetic flame. It was shown that if Chamber realized his full potential he could in fact rebuild his broken body or use his blasts in a number of ways, such as flying. Though lack of any real control over his power prevented that.

-Projection Telepathy: Basically, he was a radio that could send out signals, but not receive them. Chamber couldn't read minds, probe thoughts, or see things that lied outside his line of sight. He could, however, use his abilities to 'speak' inside the minds of those near him. He could also create psionic illusions. For the most part, these projections were unfocused, and anyone within physical hearing (or viewing) range would be affected. Chamber was beginning to learn limited control over this, however, and was sometimes able to limit who heard and saw what he was projecting. Physical obstructions didn't affect these projections as they would real sounds and images. For instance, a person on the opposite side of a soundproof wall would still be able to hear him, as long as she was close enough.

-Psionic Blasts: He could project psionic force bolts which had no physical effects but which could affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness and could even kill an adversary.

• Strengths/Weaknesses •
Jonothon's obvious strengths would be his extraordinary powers- they have not been fully gauged and his potential is possibly limitless. But, he cannot seem to get a handle on them. He finds it exceedingly hard to control and can get thoroughly frustrated when things don't go his way, only furthering to cause him to loose his concentration. Another of Chamber's better qualities would be his resilience and durability, it's rather hard to kill this bloke, no matter what you try, however; his lack of control over himself causes this to be opposed. If he cannot reign in his abilities then this almost indestructible nature is useless.

Also Jonothon believes his facial and thoracic deformities to be a major setback in life. He feels that if he were "complete" things would be so much better for himself. His insecurity about the way he looks to others has really begun to get to him. It eats away at his soul to know that he will never be able to have a normal relationship with another human being. He hates having to feel like an outcast, which leads him to never being able to fully grasp his capabilities.
