{ she-cat } { ten moons } { apprentice }

It was strange, being awake before anyone else in the Clan. I suppose that's what I get for being an early bird. The apprentice mused silently to herself, flicking her dark tabby tail behind her. Well, mother always said that the early bird catches the worm. Well, in the apprentice's case, it would be prey, for which she was waiting to wake up. In fact, she had seated herself at the base of a strong branch not too far from camp, and was eyeing the blackbird that had just started singing not far above her. Narrowing her optics to flints of hazel, the she-cat rose to steady nimble paws, unsheathing her claws for grip, and scaled up the tree to the next branch. Her victim was near the end of the branch, where it was thin and dangerous. No matter. Robinpaw had to feed her Clan.

Lowering her slim body into a well-performed crouch once she was on the branch, the tabby edged herself forwards, keeping as silent as she could. The blackbird was still singing. But the branch was getting thinner under her snowy paws, and it was getting difficult to keep it from wobbling. She was still a couple of tail lengths away, at least. But she'd have to go for it, and hope that she landed safe. It was a along way down. The Clan needs to be fed. Rocking back on her haunches, Robinpaw let the power build before she leapt, soaring through the air. Her claws caught the blackbird but she wasn't quick enough to get a grip on the branch, and went plummeting down to the ground, a terrified yowl tearing from her throat.

Branch after branch slammed into her underside as the young cat headed towards the ground. Lucky she was, as the branch the blackbird had been seated on was short. That meant that just about every branch under her was longer, and thicker. There was the odd one that didn't help her as pine needles whacked against her face as she fell and twisted through the air to land on her feet. When she did, it wasn't nearly as graceful as she would have liked her landing to be. Instead, Robinpaw landed on one of the lowest branches, thankfully coated in moss. With the wind knocked out of her and her body feeling battered and bruised, she slid from the tree and lay at the base, in between the roots, breathing rapidly with the still fluttering blackbird between her paws. Slowly, she finished it off and got up. It looked like she would have to go and see Stonedust. Her shoulder ached and her spine did too. Her whole body felt like she'd been attacked as she began to limp back to camp, the blackbird hanging from her jaws.

the wind brought by the north chilled her to the bones. she gad not know how she had woke up. deciding not to leave the apprentice den, she had not noticed that robinpaw had set off to hunt alone. from her position, she saw small parts of the den. her observations told her that smallstar was organizing a hunting party to set off hopefully before rushclan. sad about not being invited, the small aprentice sighed. someday, she would be a warrior, and maybe even join them. settling her head upon her paws, she closed her eyes and drifted away.
the smell made her wince as she trotted through the forest, avoiding fallen branches. her body was stiff, hardened from the cold. Frost had taken over, slowly she began to feel nothing. perhaps thats what happens when you've never seem the sun. spending endless days walking, ivypaw wondered if she was just walking in circles. it scared her- a maze with no end. but she wasn't the one that chose this life- her mother did. ivypaw never knew the she-cat, but she didn't want to. her paws were sore and cut, but she knew she couldn't stop. leafbare meant layers and layers of snow. if she had rested, she would lose to Frost. shaking the snow that had piled onto her skin, she sighed. what was warmth? perhaps it was connected to love. she never understood much when it came this topic. but she knew that is wasn't being frozen to you bones- having a wall of darkness surrounding your heart, and being alone. she tried to be optimisitic, but her hollow heart would not believe. but a part of ivypaw believed- believed that warmth was somewhere, just over the branch. that was what kept her going. perhaps it was her soul. numb, and shivering, she had not noticed that a branch snapped loudly. soneone was near. she could smell a scent. it gave her hope- a strange jolt of energy. she wanted to call out, but she couldn't. her voice was taken from her, along with her body. she closed her eyes and collapsed onto the cold snow. darkness surrounded her body, and she felt as if she was drifting, farther and farther away.
snapping awake, ivypaw shook of her dream. she told herself that it was never true- not a detail. she wanted to believe that she didn't in fact spend days wandering in the snow. she really did- but she couldn't. looking at her paws, she winced at remember the pain the gave her. curling up int a ball, she told herself it was the past. smallstar accepted her, and so did everyone else. she had a future- a great future that she was going to look forward to. she remembered stonedust's soft voice in her ear as she rested. vaguely remembering what she said, she didnt mind not knowing the words. what was important was that she felt something then, perhaps warmth. what had happened afterwards were blurred memories. one day, she would look back and smile at them. one day, she would become a warrior, become a survivor- something her mother was not. looking into the trees, she noticed a small apprentice, larger than herself, but a clan cat. at first, she assumed it was a rushclan apprentice, but the she-cat looked familiar. at first, she could not make out any distinctive features, but ivypaw realized that it was in fact, robinpaw. the tabby looked so warn and battled, ivypaw was quite confused. frozen, she didn't know what to do. perhaps it wasn't the brightest idea to call out, especially because the camp was beginning to bustle and energize. slowly, she trotted over to the she-cat, and saw a blackbird hanging limply in her jaws. as she got close, she stopped abruptly. keeping a distance, she called out. "robinpaw? is that you?" the striped apprentice waited for an answer. "should i get stonedust?" up close, robinpaw looked even more scratched and hurt. it seemed as if she had fallen off of a tree while attempting to catch the blackbird. behind the injured tabby, was the cold forest. she shivered, remembering her dream. it never ended- and perhaps it never will. though she has found an accepting clan, she will still endlessly wander on the line dividing Frost and Warmth. snow and not settled on the ground yet, but there were little leaves on the trees. perhaps tomorrow, snow will fall. ivypaw hoped not.

Only the strong survive.
We all know, physically this is a lie,
for all men shrivel and die.
The only strength that never dies is
the strength most men are proud to hide.
The strength I speak of
is the only strength that outlasts time.
This is the mind, the spirit,
and the soul for survival
in the kingdom of man divine.
For therein lies the strength
that outlasts time.

When the golden sunset
Sets over the amber hills
And when the moon shines bright
And all the world stands still
There is beauty, awesome beauty
From the dust there was a flower
When the storm clouds come
And thunder rolls
When skies are dark
And it hardens the soul
There's beauty, awesome beauty
Through every age
There is a call
To admire the creation
They left us all
It is beauty, awesome beauty
See the beauty, hear the call
Enjoy the life given to us all

At one point, Rosepaw remembered playing outside the nursery and squealing whenever Stonepaw, her older brother and the medicine cat apprentice, lumbered over and decided it was cool to come roll on her and Mistkit. He was bigger, much, much bigger, and Mistkit could always give in to him if he wanted something. Usually it was small things, like giving him the big squirrel she stole from the fresh-kill pile that morning, or that she and Rosepaw would have to come with him to collect his stupid herbs or something. But once, it was something different... more challenging. He said if they did what he wanted, he'd take them to visit StarClan the next half-moon. Stonepaw, now Stonedust, obviously didn't know it would end the way it did.
Rosepaw shook her head. He was a nice cat now, softened by his old mentor. He used to be a real troublemaker though, and almost didn't get accepted into the Clan as a medicine cat. See, TimberClan may not have known what he did, but StarClan sure as heck did. Somehow he changed, and it was a miracle to Rosepaw.
The gray and white she-cat gazed ahead. She was perched upon a large stone, the breeze buffeting her fur as if it blew through her. Her mother always told her what a great gift she had: beauty. But Rosepaw couldn't see it. To her, beauty was the ability to win a battle, while still showing mercy. Or if you could hunt prey so swiftly and stealthily that the creature wouldn't suffer as it died. Rosepaw tries every day to fit in with everybody else. She practiced her hunting whenever she was out in the forest, and she loved to train. Nothing every worked, because she still couldn't acheive high accuracy when she pounced, and she couldn't scare off a RushClan enemy with her words; she always ended up getting hurt in the process. The only thing she was good at was talking to toms and helping the queens.
Was that her destiny? Just laying in a soft nest with a belly swollen huge with tiny, gray and white fluffballs? That's not what I want! Rosepaw's thoughts swirled around in her head like a flood that she couldn't control. Of course, it was every she-cat's dream to watch her kits grow up to be fine warriors, and Rosepaw wanted the same. But she didn't want that all her life; she wanted to be able to fight alongside her Clanmates, not stuck in camp. She didn't think she could ever get there.

[ sorry it is so short. it us just an intro to stonedust and rosepaw, so you could get the gist of them, rosepaw especially. and I don't anything to reply to yet, so I'm just waiting for something. c: ]

WASN'T MUCH USE FOR NOW.
for only she was content with where she was. normally, that wasn't true in her case. she
always wanted to go, go, go until there wasn't any go left in her. but now? not now. she
could curl up right where she was for a few more hours, just until she'd finally had her
fill of this very moment. this moment was so... so surreal. in all her twenty five moons
she had yet to ever feel this overwhelmed with... affection. she gazed longingly down at
her suckling kits, two day old beauties. she felt safe with them near, even if it did feel
like they were suckling the life out of her. the poor things. such a long journey they had
of their coming. they deserved all the rest and food they were getting. wip

As the apprentice padded wearily back to camp, the stiff, cold breeze ruffled her season-thickened tabby and white fur, causing her skin to chill and a shiver to pass along her spine. Flattening her rounded triangular ears against her wedge-shaped skull, she pushed her way through the undergrowth, a sharp hiss releasing from her mouth as a rough twig of thorny bramble scraped against her injured shoulder. Tightening her grip on her feathery catch, she lifted her head to gaze at the forest ahead of her.

Robinpaw wasn't far from camp now, she was sure. Soon, she could put her catch on the pathetic looking fresh-kill pile and go see Stonedust about her injuries. There was no way that she could train today. That's what you get for taking risks, Robinpaw. She scolded herself, moving around a clump ofbrittle bracken. At this point, that patter of paws reached her ears, soon followed by the sweet, feminine voice of her denmate, Ivypaw.

She was asking if she should go and get Stonedust, Robinpaw realised. Nodding painfully, she reached her fellow apprentice and touched the tapered black tip of her tabby tail to Ivypaw's shoulder in a silent indication of thanks. She doubted that Smallstar, Ashfall and her mentor would be pleased with her. This could easily set her training back by half a moon, at the least, and all Robinpaw wanted to do was gain her warrior name. Her brother, Icepaw, had barely made it to apprenticeship when he and their parents died. She'd heard some of the warriors talking about how they'd been weak, but they hadn't been weak. It had just been their time to go.

(I'm sorry that it's so small, but I'm on my tablet now and it's hard to judge post sizes.)

ivypaw watched as the tabby headed towards her. maybe robinpaw was going to avoid her. but as robinpaw trotted over and touched her, ivypaw realised that her fellow denmate was somewhat glad. giving robinpaw a nodd, she shifted directions, heading towards the medicine cat's den. she was unsure of what to say, since stonedust may tell smallstar.
