What if each species grew mostly in one week?for example this month all the dogs would grow the first week, horses and ponies the next, so on and so on. that way we could focus on one species, and we would be busy they whole month.
What if for the pets there is some more stages in between? take dogs for example: there could be a time when they are laying down with no blanket, and then there could be a time when they are sitting down while they are still puppies. or for cats: they could be sitting down after they first stage, and right after that they could be standing up giving a little tiny bit of indication of what they will look like when they are full grown. that way it would take them longer to grow up with them being at one stage for a long time.
What if the pets were released at different times? So the first week of the month half of the newborns are released. Then two weeks into the month, when the pets are almost done growing, the rest of the pets are released. That way we are busy throughout the whole month and we wont get impatient.
These are just some ideas and they probably wont ever happen, but i wanted to say them just incase. im almost sure other people have said some of these already, so im sory if it looks like i copied you, but these all came out of my noggin. I will probably be adding to these as i think of more ideas. thank you! 
oh and i would prefer it the way it is rather than the old way.
