More extinct wolves... :c

Japanese Wolf: The Hokkaido and Honshu breeds of wolf have both wiped out by human expansion in Japan. The Hokkaido wolf, a wolf almost the size of a normal grey wolf, was wiped out during the Meiji restoration. The government at the time decided that the Hokkaido wolf was a threat to ranching and put bounties out for every pelt that was captured. Supposedly, the Honshu wolf became extinct due to a combination of human hunters and a rabies epidemic in their species.

Florida Black Wolf: The Florida Black became extinct during the 1900s most likely due to the expansion of colonial settlers. This wolf was known to be similar to the Red Wolf in almost every way besides fur coloration.

Dire Wolf: The Dire Wolf, though it died many years before colonial settlement on Northern America. This wolf was not a relative of the Grey wolf and would weight in at around 110 - 180 lbs. This wolf evolved to be such a massive size because it's main pray where the Bison of the North American plains, though this animal also once lived in South America as well.

it's too bad that they went extinct, but in the case of the dire wolf there wasn't anything that could be done and its extinction was only for the better.

and hey, new member c: welcome.

from what i've heard, they went extinct due to not being built to compete with faster predators and such. since their anatomy suggests that they adapted to power and not speed, many scientists think they went extinct once the slower moving prey they needed to survive died out as they weren't fit to catcher the faster animals [as the slower moving prey failed to adapt as well and therefor was killed off by the swifter predators]. there's many hypotheses, but to me that one just makes the most sense and is most commonly believed. many people think that it was humans who killed them off, but that isn't true as humans weren't even populated when they went extinct oops i forgot about that must have been thinking of something else
they were pretty awesome animals, though, and they were just absolutely massive! though there have been quite a few huge grey wolves spotted and/or killed by hunters, the biggest weighing in at 175 i believe. but still not quite as heavy as dire wolves oftentimes were.

I know, Dire Wolves were absolutely MASSIVE, and very fierce hunters. I've seen a video on them, and they seemed to not be afraid on taking on anything bigger than them. Human's can't have killed them off either way anyways, mostly because they were populated in North America before human settlement, and became extinct before human settlement.
