Name: Chemical Vapors (Vapor for short)
Gender: Male
Talent: Being a scientist -- but mostly making substances (he likes to call them 'potions', it sounds fancier) that may or may not be poisonous, harmful, explosive, etc. Most have extremely odd effects when used on other ponies, which he does merely for his own amusement -- of course, he always has an antidote at the ready so he doesn't get in trouble for harming his fellow ponies.
Personality:
Just the slightest bit adorably snarky, with a sarcastic center, despite the way he looks, Vapor can be quite kind and caring when he wants to be. He's whipped up quite a few potions in his lifetime to help out others, especially his friends. He's a bit protective, and doesn't get attatched too easily, but those he does trust are held close to his heart -- and if they ever were to betray him, it's unlikely he'd ever love them again. He's obviously quite intelligent, in order to preform his experiments, but he refuses to do any experiments that include the testing of 'lab rats' (or any variation there-of: rabbits, cats, dogs, etc.). He is well above harming innocent, defenseless creatures, and stands up for what he believes in strongly. In fact, he'll argue for hours about it with you, if you care to start a fight. However, sometimes he's merely being playful and will stop within a few minutes and admit he knows next to nothing about the subject and has no right to be arguing about it at all. If you really want to impress him, weird facts will do it. Something it's unlikely that anyone else knows fascinates him more than anything. He likes to be on top of things, and reads frequently in his free time.
Although he wouldn't like to admit it, he frequently forms "crushes" (he loathes that word) on pretty mares, even though his marefriends are few and far between. In his mind, a crush simply means he finds them to be a creature worthy of his appreciation, and that he likse to spend time with them. Maybe he finds them amusing, or perhaps he simply finds them beautiful or enchanting. Maybe a mixture! However, he rarely acts on his feelings, and that's why you usually can find him alone in his 'lab' (which is really just his house's basement...). If the mare makes the first move, though, they might actually have a chance at a relationship!
Backstory:
Vapor was born to two 'normal' ponies. His mother was a good chef, his father, a business-man. Vapor knew from childhood that something about him simply did not fit into their puzzle-perfect life. He couldn't sit still for very long, he liked tinkering with things and taking them apart to see how they worked. His mother threw a fit the day he took apart the baby monitor out of curiousity when she left it a little too close to the crib, in reach of his tiny, grabby hooves. The peices were scattered all around the nursery. His father nutured his talents for a little while until he got bored of it, and too busy with work -- then he simply ignored his son all together, and Vapor was utterly alone.
He grew and went to school, where he stuck out like a sore hoof. He had no friends, only a few select fillies and colts he trusted enough to be around him when he did his experiments. He had a few fillyfriends, but nothing serious. As soon as he was done with schooling, he bought his own house with a bit of money his parents gave him as a final parting gift, and moved out. They had made it clear they wanted no part of his toxic life-style, and that was the last time he saw them. For the first year or so without them, he partied and did whatever he felt like, just because he could. He was wild, had a string of marefriends, none of whom he really loved. But finally he settled down and got serious, working on experiments that could potentially solve a lot of problems in the world -- or, at least, in his world. Now he's quite mature and serious when he wants to be... although around his friends, his party side may resurface a few times.
