hmmm... i think only the staff have to decide witch pets goes to rare and witch pets can go deleted until the rest are rare or VR...
i have no problem myself with omg so common pets and so on... if i love them i will hoard them . and i think.. to get a rare pet or higher must stay exciting.. ♥

The game decides. Not by design, demand ECT.
By the number on the site. So the more they delete, the more the rarity goes up.

I could start up a pretty large hoard if I wanted too, but I won't.

I think that we should try to attain this goal. We could start a seperate thread and choose a pet that is unpopular, we'll hoard them and then delete them all, except for one or two so that the people who participate can have trade fodder, after dedicating time to hoarding these pets.

I personally wouldn't do this.If a group of users,or just you deleted several pets and it became rare,the people who didn't delete but had the pet already would gain,and it would be a disadvantage (?) for those who did delete the pets.

I'm really, really hoping that it's okay for me to post on a month-old topic

So I just realized something: those of you who were around for last halloween, you remember the giveaway, right? And how everyone who entered but didn't win got the awesome butterfly wolves as a compensation prize, right? They're listed as uncommon (and I think they've always been listed as uncommon).

Pet ID numbers 78,501,774 through 78,583,618 are packed with those butterfly wolves.
That means 81,844 of the butterfly wolves exist (because I'm pretty sure the system handed out the butterfly wolves all at the same time; if you can find me a pet or two whose ID number falls between 78,501,774 and 78,583,618 then go ahead xD).
There were four variations of the butterfly wolf, so that means there are 20,461 of each variation. And good grief that is a lot.

Keep in mind that I have no clue as to whether this pet is on the commoner or rarer side of the uncommon range. But when it turns rare, we can at least have a rough idea of just how rare a pet has to be to be tagged as "rare". I know there are still other variables (how many people who have the butterfly wolves become inactive, etc), but still -shrug-

^ There are 15,933 of each Lion from the Medieval Faire from 2011, and they are still uncommon.

Which goes to show that if you want to turn an uncommon pet to rare, it's possible for you to delete 5,000 of them and the pet will remain uncommon, if you were to choose say the prize BFWs.

I've thought about this before, but I kind of doubted the idea of a certain number of members deleting their pets.
