I've got many ideas for fanfiction, ranging from a continuation of the Matrix to a fanfiction of a crossover fanfiction (by Neil Gaiman) of HP Lovecraft and Sherlock Holmes.

But my original ideas have priority, so I've never gotten around to them. :-/
INSANELY BUSY!
I am moving! For the next month or so, I am going to be so very busy.
If I'm on here, it's because I'm unwinding with writing or pets or whatever.
Please do not add to my stress, if you can. Your support is appreciated.

I started a Harry Potter one, but I never finished it. I guess I just didn't like writing with other people's characters/worlds. I read fanfiction sometimes, though.

I think writing fanfiction is awesome, and I don't really have the same view as you. ^^ Maybe they're not your characters, so to say, but the stories you make about them are. I only really write FF about Harry Potter because the world is so awesome, and when I do write fics, I tend to select out a character that is not a main, so that their personalities can be subjective. If I wrote about Hermione and Ron, then yeah, I'd probably be a little upset because their personalities and stories are not really up to question - the whole books were primarily focused around them, so there would be less room for originality. Usually I use Andromeda/Ted, James/Lily, Rose/Scorpius, etc. Pairings whose stories are not actually written out in the books are fun, and easy.

There are also lots of advantages to writing fanfiction. For one, it's really good practice! Also, you avoid plagiarism by posting it online, because no publishing company could steal your writing and publish it, as it is fanfiction, and therefore plagiarism in itself. People can give you feedback on your writing, and it's a good way to improve your writing.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm in no way trying to offend <3

That's where I have the advantage with this fandom: since the show was so short there wasn't a whole lot of backstory or explanation for things, so I have a lot of room to expand. But, as I said before, it's an AU I'm about to write, so I'm basically just using the characters.

Yay, accepted ^^

@fanfiction discussion (why are people always discussing things that interest me when I can't post? XD)
I have a slightly different view than the rest of you who have replied. I haven't ever felt restricted when I wrote about main characters. And I've written many fanfictions about main characters over the years. I don't think having many facts known about characters takes away the creativity. Rather on the contrary - it's always a pleasure to see how creatively people deal with it. To my mind, picking a character with a blank past doesn't mean you are automatically more creative than with a character whose past is mostly filled out. Creativity, to me, isn't how much you invent yourself, but rather how unexpectedly or interestingly you write about those characters while still staying true to their core. With that definition, it doesn't matter how much is or isn't known about a character. What matters is how you portray him.
I mean, you can still be very uncreative even when you invent everything yourself. Some people only use clichés or create paper-people (one-dimensional, flat characters), which shows that you can sprout uncreative stuff even when you've got a completely blank project in front of you.
Yeah, that's my two cents ^^

(And then, on a kind of related note: You always have to obey your own rules when writing. Once you create a character, you have to stay true to his personality, and you also have to keep in mind how your world works and keep it working the same way throughout the story, or people will throw the book / or stuff against the wall in frustration and never look at the things you write again. So you are never completely free with what you're writing. Well, you are, but if you do that, your readers will start to hate you xD Inconsistency is not good.)

You aren't alone on the writing thing xD
ack I wish I could somehow write better.

I'd like an opinion on using fragments. Some people told me I shouldn't use them, but I'm not sure. I like fragments, but I'd like to know what you think. ^.^

I have so much research to do for this dumb AU, and I just jumped into three more role plays.

      >> @mercy: HAHA are you kidding I always use fragments. half the sentences I use in my stories are never grammatically correct, especially if it's dialogue and not narration. it really depends on the voice of the narrator or the speaker. in general, though, people these days don't speak with full sentences. they respond with fragments / one word. and usually people internalize with phrases, too. I don't think I think with full sentences all day everyday. depending on the mood / personality / atmosphere, the effectiveness of phrases may changes. often times, phrases used often will probably give off a sense of casualness with the reader, as longer, full sentences seem more formal. depending on the atmosphere, phrases can seem choked, furious, confused, etc.
