Heather stepped cautiously out of the woods. She stared in bewilderment at the metal forest in front of her. Humans and dogs walked around carelessly, talking to each other.
Why aren't they scared? She wondered, watching them fearlessly saunter in and out of huge metal structures. Heather had just emerged from her cocoon, and was extremely tentative; completely aware of her surroundings.
Should I be scared? She took another silent step out of the woods. Her tail swung nervously, And she walked further.
She had no time to run as a human came and picked her up, with a strange look on her face... Was it pity? Or was she just sorry for the poor wolf that she was about to be eaten?
Heather squirmed in the human's arms, though not making an effect. She was about the size of a small dog, larger than a dachshund or a chihuahua, but smaller than a border collie. Maybe the size of a sheltie. But she was fairly light, and didn't take much effort to lift.
She soon gave up struggling, and looked up at the human, sheer terror in her eyes. The smile melted off her face when she saw the Butterfly wolf's face, and she squatted down.
"Hey, It's alright little guy... I won't hurt you." She said softly, setting Heather down. She had started to realize the human didn't mean any harm, and didn't run, though it was against her will.
"I-I'm a girl..." She said shakily. "My name's Heather."
The human laughed. "Okay then, I'm Spygirl."
Heather cocked her head. "Where are we going?" She asked.
"Well you do know that most butterfly wolves have wings right?" Spygirl said.
Heather's head drooped a little. "Yes...?"
Spygirl patted her head. "It's okay, I was going to get you some wings!"
Heather's ears perked up. "You mean ones that I can fly with?" She asked.
"Mmm Hmm!" Spygirl said, nodding yes.
"Let's Go!!" Heather yelped, and bounced along in front of Spygirl.
Heather and Spygirl stopped in front of a big warehouse, covered in murals and art. Spygirl pushed open the door, and they walked in. Heather was amazed to see butterfly wolves just like her, with balloons and wings tied to them. They flew around the ceiling-less building effortlessly--Well most anyway, some were a little shaky.
"Wow!" Said heather, staring in amazement.
Spygirl smiled proudly. "I own this place!"
"Cool! When do I get wings??" She asked excitedly.
"I'm not sure... Are you up for a surgical procedure?"
Suddenly Heather wasn't so sure about wings. "H-Huh??" She stuttered.
"It's okay, you'll be asleep, and you won't feel a thing." Spygirl assured her.
"I'm still not sure about this whole getting cut open thing..."
"If you don't like the surgery option, we could always give you balloons!" Spygirl said.
Heather shook her head. "No, I really want wings... I guess the surgery is alright."
"Don't worry, I have the best veterinarians out there. They WON'T mess up."
Heather swallowed, and nodded.
In the operation room, the doctors were preparing for surgery, sterilizing needles and other supplies. There was the signature smell of... well, clean-- lysol, cleaning solution-- throughout the room.
Dr. Martinez opened the door, sticking her head out. "Is she ready?" She asked in a calm, soothing voice.
Spygirl nodded, and led Heather to the door, whispering encouragement in her ear before she bravely walked in. Her heart was beating a mile a minute as Dr. Martinez lifted her onto the table.
Spygirl had almost closed the door, when she noticed a doctor she had never seen before. "Who's that?" She asked, looking suspiciously at Dr. Martinez.
"He's a trainee. He's just observing for now, don't worry." She assured.
Spygirl nodded. "Good luck!" She smiled, and shut the door.
As Dr. Martinez put the mask on Heather's face, she noticed the observer leaning against a counter. She only caught a glimpse of his face before she started to get loopy, but she could've sworn he was smirking. And that was the last thing she saw before it all went dark.
Suddenly, Heather felt wind blowing her ears back. She pried her eyes open, and was temporarily blinded by sunlight. As the glare faded, she realized that she wasn't on the ground, she was gliding effortlessly over a lake. The view was amazing, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
She had an instant rush of happiness, and she felt at peace, when a large dark cloud came seemingly out of nowhere. Suddenly, she was engulfed in gray dust, and water droplets stung her eyes. She would have dropped several feet if she wasn't being supported by some invisible force, on account of a huge streak of lightning, barely a foot from her. She could feel the energy radiating from it, and her fur stood on end. It was only then that she realized she was plummeting towards the lake, at maximum speed, at least five hundred feet above ground level. There was no parachute, no wings, no balloons to keep her afloat. She did everything in her power to slow her descent, but to no avail.
At last, when she was less than 10 feet from the ground, everything vaporized, and again she was in an operating room.
It wasn't a relief though, to realize the sinister chuckle filling the room. When she was used to the bright lights, she glanced around, and saw Dr. Martinez and her assistants unconscious on the floor. She instantly tried to get to her feet, but she slipped on the smooth metal surface, and fell on her stomach.
"Aww, poor Heather. Stuck in an operating room, all alone with a mad scientist." Said the so called "Observer," Who was sneering evilly over her.
