Have you read D.N.Angel, D. Gray-Man, The Earl and the Fairy, or +Anima? Those are all pretty good.
As for the topic of Shinigami discussion- any good ideas for that much?

I've heard of all of those, but this library doesn't have them! D:
(This isn't my usual library) so now I'm looking at fushigi yugi, inuyasha, bleach, and death note. I'm really liking bleach and death note, (guess why) haven't read the others yet.

Have you read Deadman Wonderland yet? That one is an amazing manga that I recommend highly. Well, that is- if you do not mind blood, gore, cussing, torture, and slightly sexual talk... Basically, if you read mature manga.

Durarara is a good anime, I commend your good tastes, miss Sorrel. Aye- is there not some form of a Shinigami in there as well? Celty, who isn't technically a Shinigami, but serves with a similar purpose?

Yes I think cetly may be something like us ... though more of a death messenger in my opinion , while we are the ones to collect the deads' and the dyings' souls she and her kind are the ones to fill them with that sense of forbading dread they all feel before they die c:

I watched one episode of Durarara! off YouTube, and I burst out laughing when I saw the poster of Holo XD
I want to watch more of it... I need a subscription to crunchyroll. 8)
