The reason why our fingers go wrinkly after a while in the bath/water is because the wrinkles help us to grip wet things better under water.

That source only explains how they get wrinkly, not why, its also two years older than my source. here Also They don't swell up because of the water, they swell because of vasoconstriction in the fingers.

I was just eating carrots and dip and it made my fingers wrinkly. It did help me grip the carrots better.
