Words: 1,041Static narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Siren, still smiling though, and managed once more to wriggle an impending sneeze from his nose as it threatened to betray him. "Thanks." he answered her suspiciously, a small, playful smile lighting up his leafy green eyes as he watched her. Honestly, he couldn’t say that he'd seen many mares with as many brindles as she had. There had been some, back home, that rivaled her for "most brindles in existence", but none of them had been paint. Nor had they blue eyes. It was very unique to see such a creature. The stallion looked up ahead for a moment, carrying a graceful trot that managed to show off his socks without him even meaning to as he kept an eye out for trouble. He continued to keep that little distance between he and Siren (better safe than sorry), and his tail swished like that of a cat's as he let his ears swivel from side to side.
The leaves gave a soft, constant flutter above their heads, rippling in little gusts and making a soft moan as the wind passed over and under their supple branches. It got much darker the further they ventured into the trees, and the only light they had to go by was what held over from twilight, passing through sparse greenery to reveal lighter patches in the endless shadows. He could feel eyes on them, frightened birds, perhaps a family of hare nested down in the taller grass that licked up his legs. Nothing about the scene exactly invited him to stay on the current path. Chewing his lip in thought, Static suddenly had a sinking feeling, a frightened little tug in his throat that caused him to want to shrink away, to hide... and he stopped walking all together when he realized what was amiss.
There wasn't a sound around them but the low, mournful coo of the wind. No insects. No thunder. Not one sound. "... Siren?" he murmured uncertainly, his tone calm, but with an edge of that concern he felt seeping in around the edges. It felt odd addressing her directly like that, but the others were further ahead, and it would be better to share his paranoia with only one to start with. Then afterward, the two of them could decide if the others needed to know about it, or if he just needed to chill for a while. He glanced ahead to locate Kirian and Regina, and then moved a little closer to Siren, lowering his head as he shifted to a much softer tone. "Something's off about this weather. The air's not right..." he trailed off, looking up through one of the bare patches in the foliage. The sky was darkening further, thick, heavy clouds blanketing for, he'd guess, as far as the eye could see. He could feel a building sensation, like a quiet, lethal charge, stockpiling all around them. No, it wasn't the static in the air. He knew what that felt like. This was different. It made him feel uncomfortably on edge. Like he needed to run, but didn't know what from. And that's when it hit.
If he'd been anything but a fiery, head-strong individual with a fairly decent grasp on humanity, he'd have probably screamed like a frightened little filly, and knocked himself out trying to dive for cover. As it was, his nostrils flared out as far as they would go, and before he knew it, he was rearing back into a high pitched whinny that made his own ears start to ringing. However, when he touched back down with the sharp crack of his slight, deadly accurate hooves, he was in front of Siren with the reflexes of a predator. He wasn't about to let her get hurt. The flash off of it was cleanly visible even from where they were standing, the light reflecting off many terrified sets of eyes as animals started fleeing from all over. The forest was suddenly alive with a frantic drone of scrambling from feathered and furred alike. That bolt of lightning hadn't been too far off from where they'd all just been standing, and he was suddenly very grateful that they'd got going when they did. His breath coming in short, harsh gasps that he was trying desperately to calm back down, a name suddenly flashed through his mind at exactly the moment he heard a staggered set of hoof beats drawing near. BlueMoon.
He hadn't even heard her scream when the lightning had first came down. But he heard her whinny now, as she tried desperately to reach them. Her breath came in raw, frightened gasps as she ran, as though it was taking every ounce of her strength just to go at the unsteady lope she was now moving at. And when she was nearly to them, an unpleasant aroma greeted Static that he'd rather went through his whole life without acknowledging. Burned hair. Burned skin. Oh clover buds... As she stumbled to a stop, fear reflecting in her eyes that made him more afraid than he already had been, the tear stains on her face trailed faintly down her neck as Static watched in dulled, stunned horror. "Run! This storm, it's not normal!" she gasped, and when he was finally able to get his body moving, he was at the mares side in an instant. "Here, here! Lean on me, you look like your legs are about to fall out from under you." he told her urgently, and then his eyes flashed up to meet Siren's. At that moment, it started pouring down rain in buckets.
It was a cold rain, and he could feel it splattering off of his body in patches, but the trees kept the majority of it directed in streams that could be avoided if you were careful. Though being cold registered very low on his list of things to worry about right now. "There has to be a place that the lightening can't reach!" he shouted over the roar of the storm, eyes flickering hopefully from equid to equid. He knew they were all new around here, but there had to be a place to go. There had to be.
