Your character, along with others, has been hauled to Walden Pond for a school trip. Everyone knows the famous Walden, where Thoreau lived for years, where so much poetry and writing began. It is a beautiful place, and but your mind is not as serene, unfortunately. Deal with problems, whatever they may be, and perhaps find someone to share in your thoughts.

The journey begins as the students from tenth to twelfth grade exit the giant busses, into the court yard. It is crowded there, but there will be time to explore the beauty of the wild later. You are buddied up with a person, a teacher chooses for you, for safety reasons, and you are told to stick together. You are given a small lesson of what to do to be safe: stay on paths, stick with your partner, do not be loud, do not leave food or wrappers, and do not play with matches. Perhaps you have brought books with you, maybe the great Shakespeare? Emerson? Thoreau himself? Dickinson? Poe? Byron? Keats? Whitman? Shelley? Scott? Twain? Frost? Cummings? Burns? Hardy? Kipling? Wilde? Blake? Plath? Longfellow? Wordsworth? Alcott? Homer? Kerouac? There are so many to choose, each with their own style, their own flare, their own genius.

The goal of the role play is to hone our own writing skills, but within the world of our characters, let them change; have them start one way, perhaps stubborn and moody, and end another, open and kind. Confide in your partner, immerse yourself in Walden, and in the writing that has graced our world.

There is one catch though. Of course there is. It would hardly be interesting without a catch. This is not a role play of paragraphs and sentences. Not a game of prose.

This is poetry. We shall all write our posts in a poem, from the view of our characters, maybe just a line or two, maybe eight stanzas. It matters not. Free verse, sonnet, haiku~I could care less. We are writing poetry because poetry is beautiful and elusive. It is a clever art form, and I am awful at it. I plan on being better by the time this role play ends. Let's all of us aim for that. Poetry is beautiful and novel; I'm surprised this hasn't popped up as an idea before, but I'm honored to be the first to suggest it, at least as far as I know.

"autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile."
-william bryant

Words could not be more true, in this case. Autumn has begun at Walden Pond, in Massachusetts. The trees have burst to flame, turned into roses. They surround Walden Pond like a ring of fire, and the lake itself, serene, yet freezing, glitters and ripples contently. The breeze is enough to need a jacket or sweatshirt and close toed shoes, but no one's put on gloves yet, this year, and the sun continues to shine, giving warmth despite the gales. Paths criss cross the pond's rim, allowing people to walk at times very nearly in the water, and at others, on hills, giving perfect views of the pond and of the surrounded skies and forests. The trees are sparse enough, with trunks big enough around to lean against comfortably, read a book, eat something, and relax. The forest floor, for the most part, is dirt and grass, all weeds and bushes by the shore having been trampled into extinction by the many guests. It is a stunning place, and there need be no doubt as to why anyone would want to live there. The real question; is the beauty just a facade, or does it penetrate the soul? Can Walden heal you?
This role play takes place over as many days as you want. The students are staying in feigned cabins, right off the property. They're nice enough, each with a few bunk beds, but a few spiders do lurk in the corners, like shadows. It's against your school rules to leave the cabins after dark, and you must be in before dusk, which is about five o' clock. However, as Thoreau himself said, "Any fool can make a rule, and any fool can mind it."

All posts should be written in poetry. Any way, any style. Write either as if you were your character, or if you were describing their emotions and sights. Or both. An example is in the post below.

I consider this a literate role play. Anyone is welcome to apply, and the point is to increase your poetic abilities, but please understand I am looking for depth and passion, and I want you to try. Even if you are not good to start, put effort into it, and I have faith your words will turn out beautiful. If you are in the Semi-Lit+ Club, you are automatically accepted with your form, because you've already proven you are literate.

There are an unlimited amount of spots, anyone and everyone can join. This can, but does not have to be, a romantic role play. Join with a boy or girl, just know your choice may effect if you have crushes on people and the availability of a partner. Two heterosexual girls may be paired together, but if, in your form, you specifically ask for a romantic pairing, I will wait to pair you with a someone who fits your character's sexual orientation, if I can.

Remember to follow all Chicken Smoothie rules, about images, content, spamming, and kindness. <3

Have fun, more than anything; let's get to work!

an example post;
Juniper is one user, and Lethe is their partner. This is an example of a correct discussion as Lethe replies. Make sure to include an activity section, in case your poem is so deep and awesome no one else understands it correctly.

Juniper wrote:g e r t r u d e . l a r k

activity; walking with Ben, and she just fell
on some stones in the dark.

a shadow in the windy night,
it owned a bloody frock,
against the cold she had lost her fight,
her foe the stones, at her, mocked,
but their iron stench was drowned in silence,
the shadow, taciturn, lay no remark.

the ghost and it's companion stayed there for an instant
or for eighty years,
neither speaking nor howling, to strong for any tears.

Lethe wrote: .: Ben Stokes :.
activity) walking with Gertrude,
working up the courage to speak.

No scream rang out
No howl sounded
No moan nor roar nor snarl,
Yet the thud of the ground against silken hands was
enough to make him startle.

A soul, innocent to love and loss, looked on at the fiasco,
Holding his tongue between his teeth, a fool, but not a loud one.

His heart beat pounded
bang
bang

His blinking eyes took in no scene.

Yet in his surprise the youth exclaimed,
With no weakness in his voice,
"Are you alright?" And indeed it sounded
As if he was born gentile.

He bent a hand, like the willow tree's branch
As it sway to the gales and gusts,
He grasped, with quaking fingers,
The palm of one he wanted so much to trust.
