So, does anyone have any comments on my new anthro cat character? He still needs a name. D:

Does the name have anything to do with the new Tarantino film by any chance?

I don't really understand the fact that a lot of writers these days (and character creators as a whole) seem to think that names have to be attached to personality, when in reality most of the time people are named before they even have a personality to speak of, sometimes even before they're a person. Unless I'm trying to work with an underlying theme or something symbolically important, I throw around random names and arbitarily change the names of characters, because that's all they really are. It helps me rip the personality away from a name that doesn't mean much to begin with and view the character by who they are mentally/emotionally rather than by their name or skillset or title or even appearance. Maybe it's just the writer in me, but I've never really gone out of my way to work with a character's name. I named Duncan after a Macbeth character because that happened to be the book that I was using as a coaster at the time.

It might be because I'm not "down" with furry culture.

I see where you are coming from, but to me, once I name a character, it sticks and there is nothing I can do about it. XD I don't know, it's just me, I guess. ;) (To me, names always mean something. Just as I've always assigned colors to numbers from the time I was little, each name just is... Different to me, and doesn't fit just anyone. Yeah, my brain is so weird. XD)

I see names as fairly partial. Yes, in real life, people are named as newborns. But creating a charatcer gives you freedom, and I generally have a face in mind before I have a name. For example, this girl looks like a Sophie, or maybe an Elizabeth or a Katie, but I csn't see her with a name like Brooke or, say, Anastasia.

I like to find names that fit with characters, especially animals. I never use common names- my fursona's name is Kiire, which is a different way of spelling Kyra (Keera) which is my name.
I also like names that are aestetically pleasing, like instead of Casey, something like Keysi, Samantha= Semanthe, etc.

Same here, some character's faces just don't go with certain names.

And I usually mess with the spelling, it's fun. C:
