What are his poops like and what do you already feed?

With my pup we go grain-free all the ay. I tried her on a food with rice and just.. Yellowish mushy poop and lots of it that stunk. Gross. Now that she's on grain free (Before grain/Merrick, Taste of the Wild, and Earthborn are all very good foods that are reasonably priced. =) Canidae has a 'single grain' that good and their grain-frees are pretty decent. Bark to Basics CAN be well priced if you can find a good dela on it. The 4lb start bags come with coupons inside for 5 dollars off small bags and 8 off the big ones.. ;D

Otherwise.. SET MEAL TIMES! Puppies generally go potty 5-15 minutes after eating or drinking and its important to monitor feedings. =)



@Jetti: Blue is good. ^^; Nothing wrong with it. The normal lines can be carb heavy and I prefer the grain-free Wilderness or Freedom, but eh.. Thats your call.

Holy spit.

So I knew all of this food stuff in theory, but now that I'm actually in charge of dog food, it's a whole new learning experience.

My roommate gave me a Redbarn knuckle and after some pretty extensive research I haven't found more than minimal complaints about their company. I gave it to Skoll and OH BOY what a difference. From now on if I have a problem with loose stool I might just throw a Redbarn knuckle at him, haha. It's their white variety, stripped of meat. He was actually a little TOO stopped up from it so I'll have to monitor his intake from now on. He still has 2/3s left of the thing but like I said, he was starting to be adversely affected so I took it from him for now.

He's back on track now, and his stools have (finally) evened out. Excited for when his coat starts to improve! Tonight he gets his third recreational bone since coming to live with me.

Also, an oops. So I switched him onto the EVO but didn't switch his portions. He's a little tubby now, derp, so I've cut back. The package says 3.5-4 cups per day, but I was giving him 4 and his ribs disappeared in a week. I'm on 3/day and he's getting a little leaner but not at his ideal yet, debating lowering it further to 2.5/day even though I feel like I'm starving him.

Opinions on Solid Gold?

I just have been curious because the company is based in my city, and I saw it in Petco and DogFancy magazine. It's one of the few that I've seen that has a grain-free lamb food, and it also has a beef variety, which my dog would probably like. { However, he doesn't like fish at all, so maybe nevermind. } Has anyone else ever heard of it, or could give an analysis of the ingredients?
