Part Six



I am nearly squashed by Sparkle's hug as I step off the chariot. "You were marvelous! Gorgeous! Radiant!" she squealed. "Everyone is going to be talking about us all week!" Sparkle released me to go hug Hex. Laughing, I look at the uncomfortable looking Hex.

"Very nice. Very nice." Dick says, clapping slowly as he walks over. I straighten my shoulders and stand a little taller as Dick looks me over. "Thanks." I say, crossing my arms. Dick looks at Hex. "That was a nice move. A kiss? Pure brilliance! The people love romance....especially doomed romance.."

"Doomed romance?" Hex and I say at the same time. Sparkle smacks Dick on the arm. "Dick!" she says in a scolding manner. She practically glares at him then gently grabs my arm and then Hex's arm. "Come on...let's go to our rooms." Sparkle practically dragged us over to the elevator. All I can think about is the doomed romance Dick was talking about. Who said Hex and I were a romance?! He did kiss me...but it was my cheek! It does not mean anything....does it? I do not even want to think about it. I am going to die anyway.

Ahri, Candy and Dick slip into the elevator with us and once they were in, Sparkle presses the '11' button. There is an awkward silence reigning over us as the elevator travels up. I am sure Hex is thinking about the same thing I was. We probably made a lot of enemies out there today. Alot.

The doors open and Sparkle again drags Hex and I into our new home for the next week. Silver seems to be the main color for the foor, ceiling and pillars. The furniture and carpets are different colors, blue, green, orange. There are red Avoxes at different areas in the apartment. There is two small trees growing to my left in a small patch of dirt. I was amazed that they had gotten something to grow in a such a place where the was rarely any dirt.

Sparkle is giving us a grand tour of the place when Hex leans over and says, "The boy from one was glaring at you." I frown and look up at Hex. Ashamed, I realize that I had not paid attention to the other tributes. At all. "Well he was just jealous." I say back, but Hex looks...worried. He looks worried. Why does he look worried? I wish I had a handbook to reading guys.

"Alright. So go wash up and then we shall have dinner." Sparkle reports and then shows us to our rooms. Mine does not have a door. Which is okay, I guess. My beautiful dress comes off first, then my golden bracelets. I find some clothes in a dresser, searching through them I finally find a soft green shirt and a black skirt. I slip them on and then wash the make up off my face. It takes me a while, but I manage to get my long blonde hair down from it's once beautiful bun.

For a minute, I stare at myself in the mirror. I look more like myself, not this gorgeous creature that the Capitol turned me into. Shaking my head, I head out the door, then stop, realizing I had not taken a good look at my room yet. I turn and look at the silver steel room.

The bed had a emerald green comforter and a brown head board. There was the dark brown dresser I had found my clothes in, and then the bathroom and shower. Which also did not have a door. I noticed the table next to my bed had a remote on it, I shrugged and looked out the large window across from my bed. It had a lovely view of the lit up Capitol.

I take in the sight then turn and continue on my way down the hall. I had skipped wearing shoes so my bare feet fell softly on the cool floor. My long hair waved back and forth as I walked to the dining room. Everything was open so when I was in the dining room, I could see the living room, another room and the hall way to the bedrooms. Not too mention the elevator.

Hex, Dick and the others had already gathered when I walked in. Hex was talking to Dick about the district one boy when he saw me. He stopped talking and looked at my long hair and bare feet. There it was, that same look on his face. I could feel the heat run to my cheeks and I am sure they are pink. "Ah, now that Autumn is here, we can eat!" Dick says hungrily. We all sit down and dinner begins.

After what seemed like hours later, I walked back to my room. Feeling like one of the stuffed turkeys in the meat shop back at home, I collapse onto my bed. I roll over and look out the window, thoughts and memories returning to my brain. A soft knock at the entrance to my room makes me jump. "Who is it?" I call softly.

"It's only me." Hex says, walking in with a smile. I relax and release the breath I had been holding in. "Hello Hex." I say, sitting up and hugging my knees. "I came to say good night and...make sure you were alright." He says, standing a few feet in front of me. I can feel my cheeks starting to heat up and I immediately order them to stop. "I am fine Hex..." I manage to say, looking away quickly. I can not like him. I can not like him. "Are you sure?" His deep voice makes me look back at him.

"Yes." I answer, my voice softer than I wanted it to be. "Well then....goodnight, Autumn." Hex says, looking into my eyes. "Good night Hex." with my reply, he turns and walks back out of the room. Once he was gone, I fall back on my bed. I absolutely can not like him.

I refuse to like him. I will not like him.......That is when I realize that I do like the brown-eyed boy named Hex. I moan and bury my face in a pillow.
