dang, it's actually aggravating me that i can't remember our cie day anymore; it was sometime in march two years ago, i believe, and i have it written down somewhere but i don't know where that 'somewhere' is.

...however, that being said, this year will be my third christmas with zen! we're hanging around at home and a few family members are coming over, though i'm not entirely the most social person so we'll mainly just be sitting back and relaxing while he makes his abrasive, snarky comments about what's going on. looking forward to it though :>

I'm a very new Damien, having just learned that there's such things in real life less than two months ago. I read the HdM books four years ago, though. My daemon, Richard, is currently unsettled, and I doubt he'll settle for another three years-Me being generally young and still highly influential as far as personality goes depending on who I, with. Normally, when I join new threads like this, I make an effort to read the entire thing through so I don't feel like a noob, but eight hundred pages just isn't something I have time (and, honestly, patience) to read. So sorry if I repeat any previously asked questions-I have read the previous five pages if it helps any.

Onwards to the part of the post people will actually be interested in!
I'd like to start off with a question to settled Damiens. In HDM, Pan, before he was settled, commonly took the form of the animal he did end up settling as, from what I remember. Can anyone say this also happened to their daemon? I understand real-life daemons are quite different from the book's version, so there is a chance this hasn't happened whatsoever. This is just a thought that's been rattling 'round my skull for a bit.

Here's a question hopefully all Damiens can answer, although it's likely it's been asked before. How does your daemon's personality contrast-Or, perhaps, compare-with your own? Would you consider anyone's daemon less authentic if said daemon didn't represent a 'suppressed' side of said Damien?

I'll try to answer my own question, but I'd love to hear everyone else's two cents nevertheless!
Rich (My own nickname for Richard) has a very down-to-earth, reasonable, and responsible personality. He also fits under the 'Pretty Boy' stereotype. I, on the other hand, am highly prone to procrastination, 'forgetting' homework every now and then, and I lack the ability to the of all the consequences of my actions-More accurately, lack of action most of the time. I'd definitely agree that Rich reflects my suppressed side.
(While I'm a noob in the daemon world, I've always had a 'voice of reason' that occasionally flit through my mind. Rich is the personification-Or animalification-of said voice, but in a way that fits the daemon definitions I've seen. If what I said sounds sketchy, please point it out to me! x3 Maybe it's my failure to word things properly, or I need to re-visit the daemon websites on the front page of the post.)

Holmes and Kite here :'D We're still unsettled like you, and will be for a while, I think. Actually, Kite hasn't been around much lately - and right now is just a blob - because the stress from school and exams has meant that I haven't had time to project and talk to him as I used to. But he's been around since 2007, so I don't doubt we'll be back in business soon.

Okay, to answer you questions:
1. We tend to do things quite a lot differently from the book, most of the time. For example, have you even been on the forum, The Daemon Forum? Over there, people write RAs (reverse analyses) about their personality, and then compare them to animal behaviour/traits, and find a form that is most similar to them in terms of behaviour. Obviously, when you're young, your personality is very fluid so this form will change a lot, but it's a lot of fun, so people tend to do that a lot. But people don't really know what form they're going to settle as until they're older. It takes a lot of research and trial and error, and younger daemons tend to take all kinds of forms, just for fun and games. When I did a RA (which needs updating, actually), I found that my (current) personality was like a chihuahua, so he took that form quite a lot... but I always find it more fun to look up animals I've never heard of and play around with those instead. I suggest just having fun and trying on lots of different forms, especially when you're new to daemonism. :'D

2. I'd love to say that Kite is my opposite, but unfortunately, we're like two peas in the same pod. Irritable, lazy, protective, short-tempered... xD He is always there to tell me off if he thinks I'm doing something stupid, but other than that, we're not actually different at all. It doesn't matter. Your daemon can have whatever personality you want, there are no rules, and whatever feels right goes. x3 It's cool that you have opposite personalities, but it's not always like that~

Holmes was pretty much spot on! Either way I'll add my two cents

Yeah, I have known my Daemon, Dominix for roughly five years now and are proud to say we are still very much unsettled! I would absolutley take a look at writing an RA but I think if you are going to, take a look around at other RA's to see exactly what's expected in terms of length and depth (I wrote my first RA at age eleven and man was it horrible!).
That aside though, The rules in HDM are vastly different from the way we do things here. For exampls it's not uncommon for people to have the same gender daemon, a daemon with the same personality as their human. Also people can settle as late as mid-twenties and that is only if they decide to settle at all! Settling also dosn't mean yojr Daemon has to take that form 4 eva and eva, I know many people on the forum who's Daemons have settled and still change frequently (That being said it is your own choice, I know when I settle it will be similar to that of HDM and Dominix won't change. That's just my prefrence).
In my own experience Dominix commonly takes the form of whatever animal I think fits me at that time (The current being an Armoured Rat) but does occasionally take the form of a Black Panther or Purple Chinese Dragon.

In terms of personality, Dom and I are quite different although he isn't the complete opposite of myself, I am a generally calm person and so is he, we are both quiet, him more than myself. I would describe Dom much like North from Rise of the Guardians. Wise and Rational, a strong and solid influence who keeps a level head while still holding laughter and enthusiasm but not being over the top.

hello hello to you two! i'm elle (though you can call me what you wish) and i've known my daemon vendoënizen for nearly three years now :>

zen is currently stable as a masked palm civet, but like holmes, i've been so stressed and busy about schoolwork lately that he only comes to mind on occasion; it's actually been quite a while since i've taken the time to settle down and project or have a proper chat with him. growing up i've had this stuffed dog called blackie who's been around for the majority of my childhood, and i recall at times when i was stressed or sad or lonely i'd hug her and curl up in my bed and talk to her and felt like someone was there to keep me company and comfort me - nowadays i realize that that entity was more or less zen and on occasion i'll still sit down with blackie (who kind of just hangs around the side of my bed) and tell her what's on my mind because it helps me give zen a more physical form in my mind. she's kind of like a easy access gateway to conversing with him, i suppose, ehe.

as far as personality goes, he's a bit like me and a bit unlike me which seems to create a relatively fixed balance between us. a lot of the time i like to think of him as the sort of person i would be if i had the guts to bring it out; he can be sympathetic but mostly he enjoys hanging around to give his loud-mouthed sarcastic commentary on the world or slapping me into shape when i'm feeling crappy. he's pretty sassy and proud for the most part but he's still got a sense of humor and a laid-back side i can be lazy with.

@Holmes: I've read all about that on Daemonnoodle website on the first page, and I understand all the differences real-life has from the books. It wasn't really of a, 'Omg Rich has been an octopus lately so that must be what he'll settle as' thing, and more of a, 'I wonder if there's actually been any coincidences like that before? O: Be interesting to see'. Tired me does not understand the philosophy that other people cannot read minds, and thus words things completely wrong on occasion. 3 Thanks for your reply, though, it did clarify a couple other things I haven't thought of before!

New question-Do you ever use things like pillows/stuffed animals/what have you as a sort of 'physical form' for your daemon? c: Personally, sometimes if I'll snag a fox by my nightstand-I collect stuffed foxes and they decorate my room-if I'm in a particularly hug-ish mood, or before I go to bed. o3o

I'm iBeebs; my daemon is a small black caiman named Veetanuim. (I often call her Vee.)
Vee and I have only known each other for eight months; not as long as most people here.
I know some people already answered your questions, but I'd like to put in my input as well~

As of right now, Vee and I are unsettled. EXTREMELY unsettled. I'm still pretty young and influential. She mainly takes the form of a caiman, Peregrine Falcon, or Ethiopian Wolf, all with black coats and one stripe of brown spots down her coat. And we sometimes go to other forms.
But that's the result of my over-active imagination. XD
But we're definitely unsettled. The two of us have a long way to go.

Vee is...geez, it's sort of hard to explain her. She is me, but she isn't me.
There's a part of her that is like me, fierce, protective of friends and belongings, has a temper, tends to be sarcastic, and yet still pretty kind and very social if you get to know her. She and I are both gutsy enough to stand our ground.
Yet she's still more sympathetic than I am. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some heartless jerk, but she...Well, let's just say that I feel awkward around people who are upset because I'm never too sure what to do. Vee, on the other hand, could probably calm someone down in seconds. She's certainly accomplished that plenty of times when I get fired up.
Vee has an attitude; bigger than mine. She's not afraid to say something rude and sarcastic to another person I'm talking to. If I don't have the guts to, she'll snap at me and then say something rude directed towards the person.
She has this way of making me talk about anything. ANYTHING. EVen if I'm trying to block it out, she makes me talk with her about it. She certainly can't talk me into anything, but she can get a lot out of me.
I also have the tendency to be a flighty, unorganized person; Vee likes things neat and orderly. She will constantly pester me if I don't do my homework / clean me room / organize a binder for school / etc.

Sorry if this sounds odd; it's pretty late here, and I'm just quickly answering things here on CS.

So I decided I want to try and actually activiely find my Daemon's form... I mean I see myself as having a cheetah or a wolf for a daemon... A wolf less likely but not sure.... I always thought my daemon's name was Aerodon... but now I am not sure. Can anyone help me out in anything?

Yeah but the problem is I am not that young. within the 20-25 range... which means he should have settled. Which is why we were confused. He has always switched between canine and feline which I know are not similar other than being predators. We have talked about it alot and it worries him that he won't settle. Which I know is very rare and there is nothing wrong with it. But he kept badgering me until I asked.
