Adding onto that fact. The original french version was written without any E's either, which must have been so hard as the letter e has a much higher frequency in french than in english. I cant remember the percentage off the top of my head, but I have it in a book which i shall find tomorrow as I'm gonna go to sleep.

Lamb guts were also used to make violin strings. You can still get them, but they cost more and don't last very long. Violinist usually only use them to play old music.
