Try listening to to Meg and Dia. They are a great alternative/indie band but they are not too popular. (Although I cannot understand why XD )

For folk how anout the dubliners? I love them, but not very well known. They originate from Ireland but sadly stopped playing this year because Barney Mckenna (the last original Dubliner and the Banjo) died

Hyadain makes some pretty good music. He's a japanese artist that makes a lot of musical parodies of video games. And yes, his music IS good, even if it is video game related which probably makes everyone reading this hiss and spit :XAnother good band I HIGHLY recommend is the buggles. They make some pretty awesome synthpop songs. One you may already be familiar with is "Video killed the radio star". I also recommend the beegees and queen, but since they're classics I doubt you haven't heard of them.

How about Small Town Pistols? They have one of my favorite song, Colour Blind. They're really good.
