Yup, The Golden Compass is by no means a requirement (though a good read nonetheless), it's just a bouncing off point for some of the ideas we use, and we don't even follow some of the rules in there. ^^ Welcome to the club.

Well there are bunches of elephant analyses to look through. ;D And quizzes generally shouldn't be really trusted for form finding. A reverse analysis is a much better bet.

Then it must have been Carol's, in which case you can take a little away from it, but just don't count on it to suggest your One True Form. ;]

Don't ever trust quizes ever. Wendingo liessss in a way. Yes, it's not as dumb as some of the other's, but it's still not great XD. Even Carol's is crap. Quizzes will never be detailed enough. You can just play around with forms, and then post reverse analysis, preferably on the magical off site forum called The Daemon Forum (or just TDF).

I think some forms that sound good on paper may be due to either faulty analyzing skill (yeah, not everyone is created equal), or if the person making the analysis doesn't know the form well enough to capture the essence of it. If I could quote what people write about each other and somehow put that into an analysis, you'd be able to sort of "see it in action". You could put facts and interpretations that are fairly sound, but it requires a little something-something to make it just reek of the animal. That's why I love when I see people like Zoe or JKate make them. You can tell they know their shizz.

This is why I stick with civets, I can get into their heads. They're close to binties enough that I can look at them and go "oooh, I know why you'd do that, I'm kind of like that too". The oriental was the hardest for me to get into the mind of, because they're all logic-y and terrestrial and can't relate to that all that well (Owsties were easier because at least they have similar social habits to me), and though I'd like to eventually get around to spotteds and Sulawesis I think I'll spend most of my time writing them going "what is this I don't even...why would you do that?". I'd also like to rehash my frogmouth analysis, but I'm really going to have to read up on all the birdy interpretations to try to get my brain wrapped around them.

Ooh, I think my grandma is an elephant! Or at least some sort of big herd animal (I'm not sure if elephant might be too aggressive for her *needs to do more research*). But yeah, treat those quizes with a pinch of salt. Even the best one (Carol's one, which might be the one you've looked at) can't handle everything.

I would like to see a quiz which eliminates forms as it goes. They tend to work on an "add all the points up at the end" thing, but if you get a question asking if you enjoy parties and you put no and then one asking if you enjoy being around people you're close to and you put yes you can often end up with the same thing as someone who doesn't like being really close to particular people but loves social gatherings. Which is wth. I'd like to see something which strikes binturongs off as soon as you say you like parties.

Then again, binturong would have to be an optional result for that :D

This is actually exactly what I've been thinking of for a more accurate quiz. It could start out really broad, hierarchy, sociability, etc, and when, say, someone answers "yes" to a hierarchy question, it'd mark off non-hierarchical animals, and so forth, until it narrows it down to a family of animals instead of giving you random species from all over the place. It'd be kind of like an automated RA reader, with a multiple choice RA. ;D But it also begs the question of why you wouldn't just post a regular RA in the first place, plus I have no idea how you could get a quiz to read a vibe.
