i have characters with bad histories as well but i try not to overdo it. i don't have a lot of experience about murder, abuse, abandonment, etc. so i feel like i shouldn't write about it because it could be inaccurate or offensive. there is no way i'd be able to successfully describe any inner turmoil events like that could cause. props to you who can. ^.^

@mint. that's true. c: therapy is a good explanation for moving on. i just question the people who create characters who dealt with that stuff themselves. most of the charries on here are teenagers. going through all this stuff without any kind of help and being perfectly fine at a young age is what confuses me. they're either flawless or superhuman.



Okay here's my outlook. Yes, it's very possible to move on; I'm just saying that they're not going to be perfect. There's no way even after moving on your life will be perfect, or memory triggers won't be painful. I notice way too many times that a characters traumatic past has no effect on them now. That's far fetched to me...

@the journey wolf. that's a really good point. overly flawed characters can be just as bad as mary-sues. i know people who are shy and/or stutter. they can talk just fine if they're comfortable. some stutters can be awful, but every word is a bit silly.

I have only a few characters who have bad pasts, and the one isn't even sulky/unsocial like the ones you typically see that have bad pasts around here. He was able to move on.
The one really moody/ill tempered character I have is the one that doesn't have a bad past- he's just like that cause he can be. xP

But a character who is 'like that cause he can be' must have something, even minor, that makes him think like that. Perhaps it makes him feel in control or something? Or maybe I'm wrong. ouo

Actually, its literally just because he can. He was born to two very loving parents, and they raised him right, but as he moved on in life he never really had a thing for people. He just doesn't like them, and its not because he doesn't agree with how they act or anything. He likes pushing people away and being mean, but doesn't do drugs or anything like that.

some of my characters are always constantly developing as I learn. you can only hope someday the person will go back and fix that characters form of they constantly use them
