((Sounds good to me, ha ha!))

Crawling through the tunnel to tell the others, Bay didn't really know what to think. He had been on the team of dogs working so hard to dig everyone out, but he wasn't so sure he wanted out of his cage any longer. He wasn't usually the kind of mutt that would get scared, but this was different.
When he finally reached the mouth of the tunnel, everyone in the room looked up at him expectantly. He meant to tell them, he really did, but how do you explain your entire city being gone? "We're through," is all he could think of to say. With that, he turned and crawled back out of the tunnel and sat down outside, more afraid than he had ever been in his life. He tried his best not to show it.

[ ]

Jynx paced inside the dark, crowded room. When were they going to be done? Her white coat was found by a sliver of light coming through the tunnel. She waited patiently. Did this mean they were through to the outside world? She moved closer, wanting to be the first one to see the outside world, wanting to see the humans who had previoulsy beat her and fought her. Her eyes became worried as Bay turned up. There was something uneasy about him, and not in a good way. Jynx had always been good at reading people, and dogs for that matter, but she wasn't sure she wanted to read him truthfully. She wanted to lie to herself. As she heard those words everyone dreaded, she stepped into and crawled out the tunnel after Bay. How could it be? Was the world being reborn? No, that wasn't possible. There had to be humans out there somewhere.

Turning, she quickly slipped out the small, round hole and walked across the bare land. Her paw pads felt warm from the sun, but the sun didn't seem warm at all. She thought the sun must be a witness, a witness of something terrible. It had to be what happened to theo world she once loved, then hated, and loved agian. Her heart sank. There was bricks from buildings every where, carcases of humans, and man's best friend everywhere. She began to weep. Not only had she lost her family, but she lost the peace that had been brought up from her heart to her head. Jynx felt the sadness of the sun beating on her back. She felt the lives taken from inocent souls. Who would possibly do this? Destroy the peace within like this?! She wondered most of all, though, why had they survived and no one else?

...

King wouldn't sit still. His paws kept changing positions. What would be the news of the world above? It's been tense for days now. He hadn't slept at all. It was impossible by this time. His eyes wandered around the room, looking for a clue. A clue of above. No food had come. He sniffed the air wildly. The smell of death filled his nose, immediantly he stopped sniffing. "Do you smell that?" he asked, grinning. This couldn't be possible. Why would death fill the air. Flames burned within. He ached to run outside in the lush green grass, the smell of morning dew instead of death. News was yet to come. His body showed tensity. He longed for someone to answer his questions or comments. He was feeling like a hostage at this point.

King didn't want to think of why they were stuck. The door the humans used was locked, leading up to the shop. No 'ding's came from up stairs. Normally the store would be buzzing with humans. For once in his life he was scared. "How is this possible. Why are we trapped?!" he began to loose a tempure he had never felt before. He ran over to the wall and began hitting it with his paw, Bay's words finally reaching his ears. He turned watching as Jynx went up. He didn't want to go first. He wanted this one question to be a mystery.

((Oh snap, you're good. I guess I gotta kick it up a notch to compete :D))

Azalea lay sadly in the corner of the kennel, curled up against the cold wall. If you didn't step close enough to see her shallow breathing, you would've thought she had died. For the last few days she had been in a sort of half-sleep, drifting in and out of consciousness occasionally in the darkness.
She was weak. She hated to admit it, but she was, and the stabbing jealousy she had once felt towards her kennel-mates had hardened into some form of depression. They had experiences and strengths she could only dream of, and as a result, they sat or even walked around while she faded away in her corner. Maybe it was only the life swelling in her belly that was draining her energy, but she feared she had never had the strength to begin with. She whined, hoping that the store owner would come for her like he always had, but he didn't. She fell into a troubling sleep.
When she awoke again it was to the sound of voices. It was Bay... Bay and the others. She didn't open her eyes, but she heard the others filing out through the tunnel. That must mean the finally got through. Azalea waited until the last dog left. She wasn't entirely sure why, but she didn't want to be with the others. When she heard the last of her kennel-mates squeeze themselves through the floor, she rose with visible effort and slid slowly down the tunnel after them.

XXXXX

Bay sat at the mouth of the tunnel; he couldn't think of anything else to do with himself. The shepherd had always been strong, but he wasn't the brightest of the group per say, and when presented with a problem as complex as this, his brain had a hard time processing its thoughts.
He shook himself to attention when he saw the blue fur of his mate emerge from the tunnel. She almost fell over when her eyes were exposed to the light of day, and her mate did his best to protect her by standing in the light. She slowly looked up with a crooked smile of gratitude, but her face fell blank when she saw the world she had stepped into. Bay did nothing as she pushed passed him; she had taken on that dreamy, removed mindset he knew all too well, and he looked on with concern as she walked through the rubble, seemingly in a trance. He turned away when she sat, shoulders shaking, next to the body of their store owner.
From what he could see, the rest of the group wasn't doing a whole lot better than his mate. Some were in tears, others seemed confused, and all looked utterly hopeless. What the h*** do we do now?

Dirt laidened the cement floor where she stood, at Bay's beckon, she crouched down on her haunches, stealthily crawling through the tunnel. Her dense fur was caked with mud from when the chocolate pelted femme helped dig the hole on and off. A silvery beam seeped in from above, Alatea didn't know whether it was a beacon of hope or an ominous apprehension. Still, she climbed skyward, the tunnel was cramped and the walls almost seemed to be closing in on her. As she neared the exit, a sulphuric stench stung her eyes and burned her delicate nostrils. Wincing in pain, prickles of unease emanated off of her, each and every hair on her pelt standing on it's end.

Only a single step was needed to be taken before she saw the devastation. It was like she had stepped into another world. Dense clouds clustered in a shroud in a way that cloaked the sun which she had always saught comfort in, shadow was cast on the whole city, and the only sounds were that of weeping and shocked intake's of breath, one of which she realized to be her own; other than that, a sinister silence hung suffocatingly thick in the atmosphere. Ashes fell like snow from the heaven's, cascading around her emaciated frame and fluttering almost innocently to the cracked pavement.

Bricks littered every inch of as far as she could see and worst of all, the lifeless corpses of her once beloved friend's peeked out of the rubble. What was there to say at a time like this? Nothing. No word's of consolation could be uttered, no rallying cries of determination; just the deadened silence. Loping almost as lifelessly as the bodies around her, she slid down by the store owner, touching her wet black nose briefly to the man's ice cold forehead. Alatea once felt an almost kinship to the fellow, with his kind eyes and his caring disposition. But now he layed as cold as winter beneath her, the life that once glimmered so freely in his gaze now glazed over in a distant stare to whatever lay beyond.

The femme almost wished she could lay beside him there, anywhere would be better than the ruins that stretched endlessly ahead of her. But resolution stemmed from the empty void that was her stomach, starvation gnawing at her every chance it got. Heaving a sigh as it escaped from her lips, she stood, her majestic head held high and her plume of a tail raised in determination, the body language reflecting intensly in her eyes.

Unsure of what she was feeling, as she hardly ever felt anything these days, she lifted up her beautiful head to the ashen sky and let out a rippling cry, the sound carrying out through to the furthest crevices at the other end of the city and sweeping across the land. The sound spiraled up high into the atmosphere; announcing herself as another lost soul on this earth.

She was powerfully mournful and lonely, everything that had pained her seemed to leak out as notes within this song. It was never ending, as she had many days to come, but every night she would add the day's experience to it. As she finished what she had, the mysterious howl lingered in the misty air for a minute, but eventually it’s melodic echoes dissipated into the darkness of the tragic day.

Turning to the survivors, her friends, she called, "there is a time to mourn for what we have lost this day, but for me, that time is not now. Right now I think we need to salvage anything we can from these ruins and try to find something to fill our stomachs, if anyone else wishes to join me, they can" and with that she slipped away into the fog and into the dangers that lurked in the unknown. But no, she wasn't afraid, her instinct to survive had taken over and what she needed to do now was to find something to sustain her and her friends. And with that, explore the full extent of the damage that had been dealt.

((woah, I didn't realize how long this post was! O.o))

[Aw, well. I have to say, I've been trying. You have no idea how long it took me to write all that.]

Jynx sat, unable to take it all in. She wished she was some where else, any where else. Her mind could not take it all in. She looked around, Bay's lost look haunted her. How could he just sat there! Her anger over took her as she found her feet not listening, running toward him. She braced herself, and ran into him, knocking him over, snapping at his face. "How could you be like this?! We don't know what did this and you are just blank?! We lost everything." she said, her voice trailing. Her eyes filled with tears running down her muzzle and dripping down. She stepped off his body, realising what she had done. She let this get to her. "It's gotta be some twisted jerk trying to mess with our heads, twisting them around and bending our backs to get our world back." she said, a massive headache stepping upon her. She tried to reassure herself. She looked down at the pavement. Looking back up, she saw the man she loved, lieing there, dead. "No!" she cried, running to his body. Dead dog bodies were every where, still in their wire cages. "Why? What did we do?" her eyes were hot with tears.

Jynx couldn't take it. Her slim border body could not make it in time to save herself from the crimes of the life cycle. This was putting her depression into a suicide state, the worst of all. She sniffed his hand, covered with blood. She didn't care, though. She licked his hand, cold as ice. "Who. would. want. this." she stuttered along. "I can't take it!" she whined as loud as a dog her size could. She ran through the rubble. I can't possibly believe this is real. It's nothing to believe. she thought to herself. If they were ment to die, then why were they still alive?

••••

King finally stepped in, before Azalea did. He crawled through the small tunnel. Dirt covered his pelt from the tunnel walls. He slowly peeked outside. The horrible scene was painful. He felt a sharp pain within his stomach. Not only had he been hungry for days, but these people had been dead for days. He tried taking it like a man. He stepped up and lifted himself up, frozen in time. He sat a few feet from the whole. "What." he choked. He didn't have any more words to say. It shocked him too much. Somethings are left for the dead, but he was with the dead. Not only does no one in their entire life have to see this, but his eyes burned from having to. He hugged his fear, unable to let go even though his fear was scaring him. He had never experienced fear. Not when he was taken from his mother, and not the day his first love died. He had never told anyone about it, but he felt like spilling.

This is like living through torture to him. King sighed as his eyes stung. He had practically had no tears in years, and now his tears were stinging his eyes. It was like opening your eyes under water ina the middle of the pool after shock night. This really was a shocking night, though. It's one thing to hear the stories, but to see it with your own eyes was over whelming him. He watched Jynx tackle Bay, poor helpless girl. Some dogs are like her, they don't know how to not show emotion, but King was more like Bay. He had never liked to show emotion.

[Gasp, I feel out-writen.]

The girl you just called fat...she's overdosing on diet pills. The girl you just called ugly... she spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The boy you just tripped... he is abused enough at home. See that man with the ugly scars... he fought for his country. That guy you just made fun of for crying... his mother is dying. Put this as your status if your against bullying.
