Um I'm kind of obsessed with spikes so I buy a new pair of Nike Zoom Victories every season (it's really bad...) but I have friends who run fine in spikes that are three or four years old (like, the shoes).
If you mean the actual metal screw-in spikes, though, I usually only change mine once every four or five races during running season. I'm a distance runner, though. My sprinter friends change their spikes a lot more often.

Quotes, you ask for?? Lol, on our XC team we have quite a bit. One that I can think of off the top of my head is, "Real athletes run, everyone else is just playing games."
Oh, another is, "Pain is weakness leaving your body."
Haha, I love the XC running quotes so much. Lol, have you seen the ones about being sexy but instread being 'xc' or 'sexc'? They're usually on the back of shirts.

Thanks! I'm a distance runner too, but I also do the 4x400. I did mean the metal screw in spikes.

That's so funny... the same thing happened to me my freshman year. My time (for a 5K) went from a 30something in September to a 23:30. I run 21s now, and I want to break 21 so bad!!
I still can't enter races, though... still healing from costochondritis. I haven't been able to train for 6 weeks >.>

@Unicowrn: Haha, love the runner pick-up lines...
Do you guys design shirts for your team? Like sweats.
@Unicowrn: that sounds terrible! 6 weeks of no training??! I'll pass on that... There was a girl on my team who had that planter thing going on in her feet, and she missed running for 6months.../: Hopefully you're going to keep running when you get better?
