Tail biting is usually stress related. Is he by chance a halfmoon?
For tail biting I'd ditch the bettafix and instead dose with aquarium salt, but only if the tank is fully cycled as any amount of ammonia does not mix well with salt at all. Do more water changes, 50% every other day or 25% a day. Add more hiding spots and denser plants, keep the lights dim or add almond leaves or driftwood to release tannins in the water. Betta originally come from very weed choked, dark, murky water.

Alright:

Sorry about the crappy resolution, they're from my DSi.
Yeah, he's probably stressed from a lack of heat and not enough hiding places. I'd also ditch the plastic as plastic can shred betta fins pretty easily. I'd use live or silk plants. =) For some cheap hide ideas try coffee mugs or clay pots. Also, try to feed high protein foods like fish fry, frozen blood worms/krill/brine shrimp, even live shrimp like ghosts or red cherry shrimp. High protien builds their fins back up pretty quick.

Are your plants plastic?
Because plastic plants can have a tendency to tear betta fins.
That could be your problem

Mollies are community fish, so I think they should be fine.
How many guppies are good in a ten gallon? And the ratio of males to females should be what? I was thinking eight, five females and three males, and possibly two female mollies.
Also: Reading about the beta problem, I think I can take that advice too. My beta has had a nasty case of fin rot for a while, it comes on and off. The aquarium might need more plants too.. where can I buy silk plants? I find live ones hard to grow and often just messy. He's in a 1.5 gallon bowl.

You would be over stocked with just the 8 guppys in a 10g, also mollies are bigger then guppies and require a larger tank then a 10g if you want to have afew of them
You could probably do 5-6 guppies but maybe go with all male or all female so they won't breed

EmoKittehXD wrote:how do you tell the difference between male and female mollies. the same with platys. i know there is supposed to be a fin difference but i'm still having trouble. also what would be a good first couple fish for the tank i set up.
and i am still wondering how to get rid of cloudy water.
http://www.google.com/imgres?q=female+p ... ,s:0,i:117 Here, this should help. Just let the water settle, it should go away. Depending on the size, I'd go with a few guppies, platys, swordtail fish, or cory catfish.
