Bluetail managed a small laugh, despite the circumstances of her feelings, and raced off after Firestrike.

He thinks he can beat me? I'll show him how fast I can really run!

She ran until she was level with him and, with a meow and a skip in her step, she raced ahead to the mouse nests in the forests. The tingling pain racing up her legs as her paws pounded the earth felt wonderful, and she felt alive.

She reached the clump of trees and skidded to a halt. Immediately she fell into a crouch position and listened for mice. Her spring-blue eyes grew wider to look in the undergrowth, her whiskers trembled in anticipation and the muscles of her sleek body trembled under her short soft lilac Siamese fur.

Bluetail

Bluetail glanced to Firestrike, who had managed through luck to plop himself atop a rabbit burrow. She contained as much laughter as she could.

"Oh Firestrike, you're so silly," she chuckled as she helped him get off the burrow's entrance, "I remember getting stuck down on of those head-first with my hind legs and tail in the air. I was stuck there until sundown before someone found me and rescued me..."

Rustling ahead made her change from conversation to hunting-mode. She crept forward, body held perfectly still, her yes and ears on high alert for prey. She stopped short of some tall grass and waited, and a few brown shapes ran by her within striking distance. She lunged, killing a mouse instantly with her jaws and she slapped her right forepaw down hard and trapped another mouse squirming for freedom. She pressed down harder until she could feel the mouse's spine give way, and it stopped wriggling slowly.

She glanced back to Firestrike with a smile behind her mouse.

"I got two this time," she called.
