"This den may be as much as 75 feet long and can have 10 or more exits. "

Could this be interpreted as always looking for a "way out", so to speak, in a room? Like, you'd find comfort in knowing exactly where your exits are if you need to disappear/leave quickly?

"When [they are] encountered, they often move to one side behind a protecting screen of vegetation and wait for the intruder to pass."

Aaand could this be interpreted as instead of running from danger, they would try to blend in to withdraw from any possible attention?

"The claws on a gray fox are strong. They are not retractable."

For this one, I was thinking something like they're always on the defense?

Any other ideas for interpretation of these quotes?

Really? I was sure that their claws were semi-retractable. Grey foxes and coondogs, that's what makes them partial treethings.

Retractableness of claws usually isn't analysed by itself...it's usually looked at in relation to what it allows an animal to do (binties have semi-retractable claws, it lets them climb trees, so binturong people are well suited to abstract-type thinking). Because it would be wrong to say that the nails on your feet are a sign of defensiveness (I think foxes are more bitey than scratchy anyway). Non retractable claws are the default for terrestrial animals.

Oh hai. I was summoned. The ant sector is located in my lower intestines, if you were interested ;DD. I have not checked here in a bit since it tends to explode in pages all the time. I can only keep up with so much :C.

Let me check again...

*Some sites say semi-retractable, others say not retractable. Not sure which to go with? Although I did interpret the arboreality in two different ways, both of which were brought up in the original arboreal thread and both of which apply to me pretty well, so that was nice :3

I'm pretty sure it's semi retractable, if I remember reading things right. Which I'm sure I did.

***INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT UNINTERESTING GIANT ANTEATER***

1. They can range anywhere from five to seven feet long in total body length. The nose/face is seventeen inches of sexy innuendo, the tongue is two feet of fun (obviously not counted in total body length), and the tail is around three feet or more (depending on the size of the animal).

2. They love baths and water and grooming. Grooming keeps their fur in tip top shape (they apparently sweat and need to clean that off), and they love to do it in water. They are very good swimmers, and can be seen digging for water on occasion to wallow in. Sometimes it's just for the lulz. They've been recorded swimming around without attempting to groom, in the middle of the night when it's not hot and the bugs are not biting. Just.....for the hell of it? Walk in the water, circle around, walk out. Apparently in captivity a happy anteater is a wet anteater, and water features or at the very least a good spray down with a hose often makes for happy nose. Amirite, Zoe?

3. Armpit nipples.

XD best physical trait, ever. You win

I suppose I should do the same now? XD

Interesting things about Long-tailed Pygmy Possums~
1. the tail can be nearly one and a half times the length of its head and body and is between between 128 and 151 mm long.
2. Have well-developed opposable digits
3. Breed twice a year

nothing especially weird XD
