So, as a Christmas present, my sister is going to take me to the pet store tonight so I can get some fish and gravel for a 10 dollar(I found it in another store for 50 o-o) 5 gallon hex I got. It's acrylic, but comes with a very nice bio-wheel filter and a built-in light. I've already filled it with water and squeezed the contents of a fully cultured tank's sponge filter. So the question is, what all do you think I should get? I've already got my mind set on a dwarf khuli loach, and then a small shoal of tetras or danios. Do you think neons/cardinals/black neons(any of those) would work inside the tank? I'm also thinking of getting a rubber-lip, or maybe a BN of sorts.

(This store isn't any super store or anything, but mainly men work the aquatics section, and some reaaally weird fish come in. Axolotls, red tail catfish, Mekong Giant Catfish, piranhas, freshwater gobies, freshwater flounder, Chinese sailfins, giant African Dwarf Frogs(mainly dyed ones ._.), and if I recall correctly they once had GloPlecos.)

Those giant African dwarf frogs were probably African clawed frogs.

If you want ADFs do NOT buy ACFs. They are a very different animal. They eat tons more, they need cold water, much more space, and they will eat anything they can fit into their mouths. To tell the difference, look at the skin and claws. ACFs have smooth skin and non webbed front "hands", while ADFs have bumpy skin and webbed front hands. But, if you would like to get ACFs, they are lovely animals. I have two in a 15 and they are super cool. Just make sure not to get their water into tanks with other amphibians to avoid getting the other animals sick. ACFs commonly carry a fungus called chytrid that is extremely dangerous to most amphibians. ACFs are, however, immune to it, so they often times carry it with no symptoms. And, about the dying, please do not but dyed animals, since it encourages it. Dying for frogs isn't that bad, since it's in the food they are fed when they are young, but dying of fish is incredibly inhumane, given that it is remarkably similar to human tattooing, with needles and ink, and the like. And, if you see albino ADFs, be very wary, since they are very hard to come by. Chances are, they are young ACFs if they are albino. If any of you guys need anymore help on telling the difference, feel free to ask or pm me.

Thank you for telling me all of that. I know just how sickening it is to dye animals, and I'v even sent a letter out to maybe stop dyeing fish in my state.
And actually, I'm not interested in them, I'm just saying that occasionally they do carry them and other oddballs. They sound like ACFs, but they're labeled as African Dwarf Clawed Frogs, so one can't be sure. Sorry to make you type all of that....

Don't worry about it. It's better to be safe than sorry, and I think some people are interested in them currently.

I think I'd like to replace the plastic plants in my ten gallon with silk and get a betta to replace my guppy who died.
I'm just a little worried about how he'd be with my cories. I wouldn't have another place to put him, as I don't have room for another tank and my mom doesn't want another one either.

Does anyone here successfully keep cories with their male betta? Any tips you'd have to keep them together? I already have my cories in there, so its not like they'd be intruding on HIS territory.
I'll be looking online, but I'd like some information from you guys too. ^^

I use to keep Cosmo, my huge betta with cories. What I'd do is put a divider in the tank, and let him watch them for a week. Then see how he acts, if he tries to attack them, put something for the cories to hide in and watch. Hope this helped.

How many gallons is your tank? :
one ten, one twenty and a one and a half gallon
How many fish and what types are they? :
Twenty;
one panda platy, quite shy.
One red velvet swordtail, also somewhat shy
four golden barbs, all very nice to the other fish
How long has it been running? : about two months now.
Did you cycle it? : we used the aqua safe aquariam stuff so yes. we then had waited a day and a half before putting the first fish in
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? :nope, not possible to get.
What is the issue or question? :
I have a younger female veiltail betta, and I was wondering if it would be okay to put her in the twenty gallon or to keep her in the one and a half gallon?
The betta is shy and I moved the tank next to the twenty gallon. She doesn't seem aggressive when the other fish swim by.

I'm not sure I'll be able to get a divider.
I was thinking I'd replace the plastic plants with silk first(since I like the look of silk plants better) and figure out some little hidey places that the cories like. After they settle in with the new set up and find all of the places to hide, I'll get the betta.
My cories have gotten pretty big and they can definately move their tailfin if they need to. xD I'll see if I can find a healthy, but calmer betta as well.
If push comes to shove, I have a friend who already has a massive oscar and a betta... and he loves fish. So I might be able to rehome him.

Eh, I may choose against a betta if I start to worry about it when the time comes. :/ But I'm still looking into it. Just love bettas so much.

I have two fairly large wild fish (a minnow, about 5 inches, and a sunfish, about 3.5 inches) in my 10 gallon ATM. My dad has an empty, well-planted 75 Gallon tank in the basement that I want to move them to. But the thing is, other river fish have done poorly there. It's winter, so the stream is frozen, and I feel they deserve more room. Would it be a good idea to move them?

All you can really have in a 5gal hex is a betta fish, thats really it besides snails and shrimp.

And my new fish are in the tank! I ended up going with gourami instead of angel fish after talking to a friend of mine and bought a dwarf flame gourami and an opaline (The only ones there, I was originally going to get a gold and an opaline but oh well)I then got four more black skirts so I have 6 and four blind cave tetras, then after talking to the lady who works at petco and who is in my opinion the most fish knowledgeable person there got three albino cories. She asked if I had any bottom feeders and I only had my dojo loach who doesnt help that much and she recommended them. Maybe they did poorly because the conditions were not the best for their breed? Look into what each fish needs and then see if you can tweak the tank to their correct conditions.
