He was floating. The darkness surrounded him like a thick sheet of black, pressing in and blocking out his source of air. The boy didn’t want to move—each time he struggled the pain increased and his lungs screamed out in protest—but deep down, he knew he would die if he didn’t try. Two legs kicked out against his murky grave, bringing him up and up until rays of light spilled across his face, and as if in an instant, the dying victim was reborn. His lungs exploded and two hazel eyes peeled open against the sunshine, glancing around in panic. Frigid waves roared in the distance, peddling his way and crossing over his throbbing body on several accounts. He was alive...and in the middle of the ocean? As confused as he was, nothing surprised him. He recalled the sputtering noises coming from the plane and they way everyone had begun to scream before it dove, nose down, into amiss. His name was Gunnar. Gunnar Hans Crestlin. And he had a feeling his life was about to change for the worst.

A wave of saltwater crashed overhead. Gunnar tumbled into darkness and clawed his way up to the surface, chocking on the bitter taste, unable to reach out to anyone for help. Whether any of the other passengers had escaped with their lives was beyond him, and his hope of survival began to dwindle. Just keep fighting, he told himself, slowly pushing against the current. It felt impossible at a first attempt, but to his surprise, the waves began to push him onto shore. He crashed into the sand and dragged himself from the water, where he threw up a crimson puddle and lay very still. He just wanted to sleep, and so he did, eyes fluttering close and body curling up with sleepy defeat. I'm alive.

Pierce Cooper | Eighteen | L o s t
It's worth the wait, even so far away.
I'm making the night mine until the day I die
No lights to brake when you're hanging by fate

"Attention Passengers, this is your captain speaking. Please keep your seat belts on at all times and please stay calm. We will be crash-landing in a matter of moments. The air masks will come down and you have life preservers under your seat. I repeat, please remain calm.".
That was the least thing that I remember. The captain speaking on the plane. Saying that we all would be okay and that we should remain calm. I don't remember if people got up and panicked, I hope they didn't, but what if I panicked and it saved my life? What if I'm not really alive. What if I can expect my life to flash before my eyes soon. Perhaps I'm in the ER right now, doctors trying to save my life. What if I'm stranded and need medical attention as soon as possible, but I'm nowhere near a phone to call.
I took a huge breath, expecting to inhale air, but I got nothing of the sort. I started coughing, then choking. Where was I? I squinted my eyes, then opened them a little more. All around me I could only see a vast amount of blue. I was not in a pool. No, in pools you can see the bottom. I wasn't in a lake. Lakes aren't this big. I was in the ocean with no clue how long I had been here for and no idea how far from land I was. There was no way of telling what time it was, or the date. I mean, of course there was, but I just couldn't do it myself. I was stranded.
I was also floating. Yes, I guess listened carefully and made sure to pull out my life preserver in time for the crash. I laughed at that. At the fact that such a simple action had saved my life. It was a bit ironic though, given the situation I was in. I shouldn't have been laughing, but yet there was something inside of me that said I was alive and safe and that I should laugh. Laugh because nobody knows when the next day is going to be your last. As for being safe? I didn't really know that I would be safe, but I had a gut feeling and since my gut feeling told me to laugh for a very true reason, why not feel as if I could be safe for a made up one? I mean, it wasn't like I was going to wash up onto a secret island getaway with luxury poolside rooms and tropical drinks, but washing up on the shore of anywhere would be just as good.
It was light outside and I was guessing the plane had crashed at some point during the night. I guess I had been pretty lucky to have survived. I lifted my arm and put it to my face. Was that... dried blood? it must have been. I looked around in the water. It didn't look like there were any sharks here. If I was fully in tact with liquid blood earlier, then I thought I was safe with dried blood now, so then I dozed off or something. I say it like that because something happened, whether it was conscious or not, but one moment I was in the middle of the ocean and the next moment I was lying face first in sand. I hadn't been sea sick, but when I got on land, I had a churning in my stomach. I couldn't stand up for a while, but I guess it was only probably like ten minutes or so. I had no idea if I had thrown up while floating in my dream state, or if everything had stayed down, but I felt like everything was going to come up. It took everything I had to keep myself from puking. it wasn't a matter of other people seeing, I mean, who else could possibly see me? I was stranded on an island {or continent, I had no way of knowing} all by myself from a plane crash that probably left everyone dead- I would probably be too if I hadn't been pushed by the current over to this land of whatever it is. But here I was, just barely standing, in wet clothes, and all alone, standing in the place I would most likely die. And for some reason, I accepted this. I didn't give up and just lie down to sleep and hope that waves would suffocate me. No, I made an effort. An effort to stay alive for as long as I could, but I knew that if I died while there, that I had tried my best, but nature won {as it normally does I guess.} Honestly, I was really just afraid that my parents would think that I was dead, when I really wasn't. I was just out on some island or whatever trying my best to stay alive and somehow get back to them. Well, mainly just so that they knew I was alive. I couldn't wait to go to college and be on my own, if I ever made it back.

The sound of waves crashing over the girl's limp body woke her. The sun was bright and her heart was racing. The sound of tropical birds merged with the waves. as the black haired beauty sat up. Dizziness overwhelmed her as she tried brushing off the wet sand. Drenched in water she laid back down and coughed up the salty ocean water. Thirst attacked her before realizing she was lost. Abandoned on an unknown island. Crawling out of the waves grasps so she isn't taken back to sea, she crashed on the warm dry sand that now coated her body. Her head rang with pain before realizing she had a gash in her head that was bleeding terribly. Ripping a piece of her sandy, wet shirt she put it on the wound and then took notice that she had hit her head harshly off a jagged rock. As she laid there for a good fifteen minutes she took off her shoes and tried to warm her feet in the radiating sand. Opening her eyes once more she blinked a couple of times to clear her blury vision and to get used to the light. Sitting up slowly once more she took in the beauty of the island that would be her prison.

{Alex}

The last thing I remember was sitting on that panic-ridden plane, feeling lonely and terrified, and then--BAM. A crash. And now, I wake up and sand is everywhere. There is no part of me not covered in sand. I open my eyes and see nothing. I blink erratically until my vision returns. It's only then that the terrible pain catches up with me. Everything hurts. It feels like I am on fire; the pain is so excruciating that part of me wants to just lay here under the hot sun until I wither away to nothing, but I know that's not realistic. I look around, trying as hard as I can to focus. I'm on a beach. Okay, great. So how does that help me? I lurch forward and sit up, and am immediately dizzy and overwhelmed with pain. I squeeze my eyes shut until I am able to collect myself. I look around and see a few others sprawled around the shore, and I few I can recognize... I look down at myself and sigh. My clothes are wet and sandy, and so they cling to me. My skin is badly sunburned, which would explain the sensation of fire,b= but at least there's no severe injuries on my person, I don't think. A few cuts and bruises, maybe, yet I'm lucky: Nothing seems broken. But...What happened?

Why did we crash? Where did we crash??

Kennedy racked his brain for any survival techniques he could remember, causing his head to ache more. Okay, never drink salt water and always boil any water before drinking it. Oh, bandage wounds immediately so there won't be an infection. Wait, isn't that just common sense? He thought as he brushed his black bangs over to the side, his brown eyes scanning the landscape for any of his classmates that were still alive. "Gosh, I hope everyone is okay. I don't want anyone to die." The quiet male whispered as he stood up slowly. Leaning on the tree heavily, he stumbled a few steps and then steadied himself again. Well, I can walk better at least. Kennedy thought as he began to walk slowly towards a mountain side in the distance. He figured there would be some vegetation he could eat and maybe, if he was lucky, a freshwater stream.

Making his way towards the mountain side, he noticed a few large leaves brushing against him. "These would be nice for catching water." He said as he broke off the large green leaves. Patting his back, he realized he still had his small green backpack he always carried around with him. Slipping it off over his right shoulder, he unzipped it quickly and pushed the leaves in the bag before slipping it back over his shoulder. Finding a few sticks and bushes that would be nice for starting a fire, he tucked them under his arm, clutching them to his side. Kennedy noticed a bush of berries but decided to stay away from them. "They might be poisonous. I can't risk eating some bad berries and dying." He said softly as he moved closer to the mountain side. His thoughts began to wonder on the subject of his classmates. Is anyone else up and moving around? Am I the only one who doesn't have horrible injuries? Kennedy began to panic at the thought of being alone. He had been alone most of his life so why can't he just be alone now?

The girl thrashed under the water struggling to reach the surface. What happened? Last she remembered she was sleeping peacefully on the plane. Then she was in the water. Normally she'd be able to be two and two together, but right now her only concern was getting a mouthful of oxygen. The salt water stung her eyes and burned in her lungs, but she managed to get her head above water and suck in air. She coughed loudly, spitting out the foul tasting liquids that spurted out of her mouth. Her vision was blurry, but she looked around at the carnage surrounding her. A few airline chairs floated nearby on airbags. All were on fire. Something nudged the girl's shoulder. Her head snapped in its direction as the word 'shark' flashed behind her eyes in big neon letters. She managed to sigh. It was only a suitcase, but that didnt mean the wreck wouldn't attract the ocean carnivores. The case bobbed in the water as the girl struggled to clamber on. Her body screamed its pains, but she didnt give in. She eventually managed to lie semi-comfortably on the overstuffed thing. Them fatigue overcame her.

When she woke again she wasn't bobbing amungst the wreckage. Her cheek rested on wet sand and her blonde hair stuck to her head. The waves lapped at her feet. Her vision was still blurred beyond belief, but that was just sleep in her eyes. She pushed herself up with her hands only to plop back down painfully on her stomach. It was a long while before she managed to get herself up again. When she did she clamped a hand down on her head. The throbbing was almost unbearable. When she removed her hand it was rust colored. She covered her wound again before examining her hand a second time. Now it was crimson. She bit her lip. She must've hit her head on something. She looked around frantically for the suitcase that saved her life once and could do it again. It was gone. The sea must've eaten it again. It wasn't the saltwater stinging her eyes now; it was tears. She dropped to her knees. Sobs racked her body and shook her aching shoulders.

She didnt know how long she knelt there crying, but when she stopped, she was crashing through the jungle. Where was she? If course she didnt have the answer. She gripped the bark of trees for support as she staggered. Vines and roots grasped her legs threatening to trip her and cause further injury. The buzzing of insects and the screeches of birds were the tone deaf song playing in her ears. She was deep in the wood now. Her vision had cleared. As sudden as something had gone wrong the memory came rushing back to her. She was going in a trip with the senior class. They were all excited. She had been asleep on the plane when something had failed. The sound of the captains orders echoed in her skull. They were falling from the sky. She was thrown from her seat and her head slammed on the ceiling. Then she was in the water, and now she was here. Tears once again were spilling over her eyelids. Had anyone else survived? Was she the only one? The questions haunted her as she threw her head back and released a strangled scream. Birds took to the sky from their canopy perch. This was the last thing she saw before she blacked out and fell to the ground.

As it so happened. There were people alive. And she was so glad that they were. Her biggest fear is being alone. And wherever she was didn't feel too lonesome anymore. It seemed as the day went on, people began to wash up. Alive. They were alive. She saw Brian right away. Though, seeing the remains of Jake, her ex-boyfriend, wasn't one of the things she ever wanted to see, so she stayed where she was at, trying to look out for other people. And then Cheyanne showed up. Rosie only knew her name through a friend. Then another boy, by the name of Kennedy, dashed near the treeline, and she watched him. He tutored her in Chemistry.. As she saw Brian's head turn, she saw Arabella. She sighed a sigh of relief as she saw one other person that she hung out with. Then, a little voice was heard and she turned her head to see Alyss. She helped Rosie out when they were studying Shakespeare.

She saw another boy drift onto the beach, and it looked like he was bleeding, she sat up a little to go help, but she received insane dizziness by moving quickly. She sighed and closed her eyes. Maybe Brian would help him. She opened her eyes slowly, and her vision was restored. She probably had a concussion. She pouted a bit as she looked at the sand. Another figure began to move around. It was Pierce. Someone who was school wide known for his comedy antics and trickery. Although, the tricks were mostly played on the faculty making him favorable to the student body. Then, another body sat up. It was Renesmee. Then a boy named Alex. And finally a girl by the name of Mitch. No one else seemed to be moving or breathing. She sighed and then turned her head to Brian as he whistled. And then whistled again. She hated being whistled at, but this time, she actually enjoyed it. It meant that she wasn't imagining all this stuff. People were actually alive with her. So, she stood, using a palm tree behind her for support and began to walk shakily. Her legs were wobbly and she looked like a newborn foal beginning to walk for the first time. And the gash along her calf made her have a limp in her walk.

She made her way to the boy who just washed up on the beach. The only boy who she didn't have a name for. She stood over him surveying his wounds. Nothing looked too bad. Nothing serious. And she looked over to Brian seeing that was the case for him as well. If need be, she took some sports med classes that should help the group stay okay. Hopefully off of Death's door. She sighed and made her way to sit near Brian but away from the water. The last thing she wanted to do was go back to it's salty domain. And as she looked along the coast at the people, she smiled lightly and hope flickered through her eyes.

    ᴀʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀʟʟᴇɴɢᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ
    ᴄʜᴀɴɢᴇ ᴏᴜʀsᴇʟᴠᴇs.”
As the tears rolled down his swollen cheeks, he looked up to the sky, however something moved in the corner of his eyes. Instinctively, the first thing he did, was look to it. Along the miles of beach, there were figures moving. At first, he thought it was just a dream; that his mind was playing tricks on him. But then he realized that they really were there because they recognized him as well. The first one he saw was Rosie. He looked to his left finding that there were more. People had survived the crash. He looked down to Jake. Burying people would probably be the first object at hand. They didn't deserve to be eaten by who knows what. He looked up again seeing a goth girl had survived. He didn't know her name. They came from a big school. Then he saw another boy, with glasses, go near the jungle treeline. At the very end of the beach, he saw a figure with long blonde hair. That could be a number of people, however as he studied the figure, he saw that it was none other than Arabella. He turned his head as he heard a soft hello being spoken. Several yards away was yet another girl. However he couldn't say anything. He was too astonished to actually see that people survived.

Then another body washed in. A male. Another that Brian did not know. He seemed to be moving and bleeding, but alive. Then he saw Pierce. He, too, was a long ways away. But he was here and he was alive. Then another girl sat up. Renesmee, by the looks of it. Then another boy came into focus. Another whom he didn't know. The last to rise was a girl by the name of M..M...Mitch. Yes, that was her name. He looked around once more at his fellow classmates and with more effort than it should have been, whistled trying to call their attention. He sat back on his behind gathering his knees up and resting his forearms loosely on his knees as he whistled once more to any who didn't hear him. He sighed and looked at his deceased friend once more before looking up to his classmates. The people who he would be sharing the island with until somebody found them, or they died.

Thoughts were flying through his head as he thought of what to do. The plane was no where in sight. How were they going to live? They needed medical supplies. He was hurt. God only knew who else was hurt and how bad it really was. He sighed. Not to mention clothing. He didn't have a shirt and his shorts were ripped near his knees. He couldn't even imagine what some others looked like. He sighed. This was going to be interesting to say the least. He looked up at the place that they were now stuck on. By the looks of the beach, he guessed they were either on a peninsula or an island. His dad was a hunter. He is a hunter. If there was one thing that his dad taught him in all his years, it was that you need three things to survive. Everything else is a necessity. You need shelter, water and food. And that was what they were going to find. He didn't dying anytime soon.

To Alyss's relief, she saw more people moving around. Brain caught her attention by whistling, seemingly trying to call people over to him. Her face set in a determined scowl, she rolled onto her left side, her wounded leg up. Ever so carefully, she continued to turn until she rested on both her knees, the pain building with the pressure in her right leg. Gasping and trying to ignore the pain, Alyss used the nearby palm tree to drag herself upright. She leaned heavily on the tree, glad that one thing in the world wasn't spinning around her. After her breathing steadied, the pain was more bearable, and she no longer felt the urge to purge her stomach of everything she had ever eaten, she tried to take a step away from the tree.

And fell flat on her face. Her leg was in acute pain, and her head was throbbing again. As quickly as she could, Alyss rolled herself back onto her left side, the pain in her leg lessening immediately. With a quick glace, Alyss could tell she was bleeding heavily from the wound on her leg again. She had torn the delicate clotting factor that was building the scab, it seemed. With a huff, she set her eyes on Brain, starting to do an awkward sideways caterpillar crawl. Being a bibliophile, Alyss had read many first aid pamphlets, though she had never actually taken a class. And that had been a while ago, so she wasn't sure how accurate the information was any longer, but her thoughts turned to the others, wondering if they were in any need of medicinal assistance.

"I'm not seriously injured." she said, matter-of-factly to no one in specific. "I think I hit my head really hard or something, and my lungs and throat aren't happy with the salt water I drank and breathed. And there's this gash on my leg. But nothing too bad. Anyone else?"

She was usually very shy, and surprised even herself by speaking to the others. She wouldn't be shocked if the others didn't even know her name, though she knew theirs. A creature of the sidelines, she had once called herself. A creature of the shadows.

Gunnar Crestlin
__________________________________

He hadn’t expected so much blood, but it was nothing compared to some of the shared wounds of other survivors. A little puddle of crimson didn’t frighten him as much as the bodies or flaming shards of metal that scattered the beach. Gunnar pushed himself upwards and rubbed the drowsiness from his eyes as he survived the wreck, crouched in the splattered sand. The boy’s body was outlined by rosy light, and streaks of sunshine spilled over his naked shoulders in beautiful rays; it was a beautiful afternoon, but the smell of death, despair and smoke was enough to dampen any good weather. He bent over and allowed another bout of blood to spill from his lips, gagging on saltwater during the process. Despite the pain that had come with living, it was no mystery that he was lucky to be alive in the current setup. “It’s funny,” Gunnar murmured in hysteria, speaking to nothing in particular, “You just finished reading Lord of the Flies. I sure hope we don’t relive that awful fantasy.”

Gunnar was an average boy; messy hair, deep chocolate eyes and innocent, charming features. It was strange to think despite his ability to fit in, he was the loner of school. He preferred his own company over others, thus leading to his title. Despite appearance, it simply wasn’t a surprise the other passengers didn’t know his name. In fact, they probably wouldn’t have noticed if he had become one of the dead. The thought didn’t really bother him, however harsh of a factor it was. That’s okay. You’ll be fine on your own. Gunnar sat upright and rubbed the cut on his cheek, mesmerized by the sea. As the others began to collect, he remained in the distance, a sad little frown on his face. There was nothing wrong with being ignored or wanting to be alone in a time of pure shock...but it might as well come back and bite him in the future.

I'm gonna pop some tags,
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket.
I - I - I'm hunting, looking for a come-up.
This is flippin' awesome.
I wear your granddad's clothes.
I look incredible.
I'm in this big as* coat.
From that thrift shop down the road.

It was several more minutes of blurred vision and coughing up salt water, sending a burning jolt through my throat and lungs, and some concentrated thinking, before I saw it. Movement. My first instinct told me it was some wild cat that was prowling around, looking at the dead and wanting to attack the living. But as my deep blue eyes focused in on the creature, I realized something. Whatever it was, was bipedal. It was also human, a boy from my school. My eyes widdened and my heart starting pounding happily, as I looked around. I saw some un-moving forms, most likely dead ones, but most of them moving.

As I searched, my eyes landed on Roslyn. She was okay, walking, and settling near Brian, another boy I knew quite well. A lot of girls swooned over the jock as we cheered for their games. Annoying and quite cocky in my opinion, but still I do admit he was attractive. I saw some goth girl with wet black and blonder hair across her face. Several more people, including Pierce and some other boy I had seen around school. But I didn't care, Roslyn was here at least, my friend. One of my better friends, possibly my best friend even.

Slowly sitting up, I brushed my drying hair to the side of my face. Shakily standing up, I looked down at my hand. It hurt like crazy, but I ignored it, and walkeed towards Roslyn. "Ros! Thank god your alive love!" I cooed, settling on my knees as I looked at him, smiling a bit. "Wh-... We have to do something. Do we go help the others." I asked her gently, my eyes searching hers before scanning across her arms and legs. "Are you hurt much?" I asked, looking back at her with a slight smile, hoping she was alright. All I knew was there was blood on her, and I was worried.
