Roleplay sample:
Applepaw had not expected anyone to be in the den when she went inside, but she wasn't entirely surprised when she saw a couple of the apprentices sleeping there. It was Lilacpaw's retreating figure that made her flick one ear as she watched her disappear out the opening Applepaw had just entered through. Applepaw had noticed Lilacpaw' s unusual personality a while back. Perhaps she couldn't say it was unusual, though, considering she herself had such a strange habit of secluding herself from her clanmates. Applepaw' s ear twitched again before she drew in a deep breath of air and settled herself down into a bed of moss, feathers, and other comfortable items.
Applepaw had nearly fallen asleep when Blazepaw shifted in his sleep and moments later rose from his nest. She briefly glanced at the tom before shutting her amber eyes and attempting to feign sleep. She wanted to avoid a confrontation, and pretending to be unaware of his presence, lost in a world of dreams, seemed the best way to do so. It worked, or maybe Blazepaw just hadn't realized she was there. Her nest was behind his in the den. Once Blazepaw was gone, Applepaw opened her eyes again and let her gaze travel around the den. It was nearly empty, aside from herself and the the vacant beds. Feeling more than a little alone, Applepaw rose to her feet and began to groom her messed fur. She ran her rough pink tongue over her kitten soft coat a few times until she was unable to fix it any better. There was still a spot on her back - which she couldn't reach - that was slightly ruffled and knotted. She frowned slightly and attempted to crane her neck back so she could untangle and flatten the patch of fur, but her attempts were fruitless, and only resulted in her losing her balance and falling. Groaning slightly, she got back to her feet and left the den.
Outside the den, Applepaw stood with a lashing tail and look of annoyance on her face. She still couldn't get her fur to lie flat, so she had an 'I just got caught in a tussle' appearance. A scowl remained on her features as she sat down a few mouse- lengths from the den and once again tried smoothing out the tangled fur on her back. Frustration gnawed at Applepaw, but all she could do was continue trying. As she turned her head back again, she didn't realize she was only a foot away from her mentor, Spottedshadow, and accidentally stumbled into the she cat after yet another failed attempt. Embarrassment flooded Applepaw almost instantaneously.
"Oh!" A gasp left her lips and she ducked her head ashamedly, her gaze landing on her paws. Awkwardness immediately settled in - or maybe that was just Applepaw's imagination again. Applepaw had to force the next words out of her mouth, though it wasn't because she didn't care - she probably cared too much. It was mainly her own brain that was fooling her into being uncomfortable and insecure, like it always did.
"I'm sorry, Spottedshadow." The murmur was quiet but audible, and Applepaw silently cursed herself for not speaking clearer.
