Welcome to the House of Night

You have been Marked by the Goddess of night, Nyx, to become one of her sacred children... the vampyres. In a world where vampyres and humans hold an unsteady truce, your life has completely changed. Will your friends and family accept you for who you are? Or will they shun you as a monster?

No matter what happens, though, you must come to the House of Night – a finishing school of sorts for fledglings (those newly Marked) to go through the change from teen to vampyre. The Change takes four years. The road is treacherous. If you cannot make the Change, you will die. If you do, you will join the elite and powerful. Will you be among them, or will you perish on the journey?

HOUSE OF NIGHT RULES

RULE #1:
If you’ve been Marked by a Tracker, night has chosen thee. You will go through the Change and turn into a vampyre. However, if your body rejects the Change, you die.

RULE #2:
If you are Marked, you must leave your home and move into the House of Night school, where you will take your place as a fledgling and live for four years.

RULE #3:
At the House of Night School, classes begin at 8pm and end at 3am. The gym is open until dawn.

RULE #4:
You can never be far from an adult Vampyre for long. And it’s not like you’ll turn into a pumpkin. It’s a much bigger deal than that.

RULE #5:
Formal rituals are held at Nyx’s Temple twice a week. At the ceremony’s commencement, turn to the east, south, west and north to summon (in order) air, fire, water and earth.

RULE #6:
If one of the cats at the school chooses you, you will belong to him or her. Not the other way around.

RULE #7:
Every High Priestess is given an affinity, or special powers, by the Goddess.

RULE #8:
If you ever leave school grounds, you cannot wear any part of your uniform (which is primarily basic black) and must conceal all tattoo markings.

RULE #9:
Here at the House of Night school, there are no lockers. You will have cabinets in your homeroom. If someone steals something, the vamps will know it. As will Nyx.

The Formers and Professors



Third Former

Third Formers are the equivalent to freshmen. These young fledglings are getting accustomed to their new lives as future vampyres. Their symbol is the Labyrinth, representing the path of the Goddess, Nyx.




Forth Former

The equivalent of sophomores, Forth Formers are adjusted and continually moving forward. Their symbol is the wings of Eros, God of Love, reminding them of Nyx's love for her children.




Fifth Former

Equivalent of juniors, the symbol of the Fifth Former is the chariot of Nyx, showing the continuation of their journey.




Sixth Former

Near the end of their journey, Sixth Formers are the seniors of the House of Night. Their Emblem, the Fates, represents the end of their journey to becoming vampyres.




Professors

Full vampyres, the Professors emblem is the Goddess Nyx.


The Goddess Nyx

The embodiment of Night, and very similar to the Earth Goddess, Gaia. She is everywhere. Nyx gifts fledglings and vampyres with special powers. She is not jealous or vindictive, but she does not tolerate liars and her path is not always an easy one to tread.

Although Nyx is the embodiment of Night in a literal divine personification, she is actually very similar to what people typically consider the Earth Goddess, Gaia. Nyx is found everywhere, she is most powerful at night, which is why her special children have always been vampyres. Since ancient times, vampyres have honored Nyx by living in a matriarchal society where women rule, but men are honored and respected for their roles as guardians and companions. Nyx gifts the earth – filling rocks, trees, rivers and mountains with her spirit. She is known by many names including Changing Woman, Gaea, A’akuluujjusi, Kuan Yin, Grandmother Spider and even Dawn. Often she gifts individual fledglings and vampyres with special powers. Those so gifted are also given the additional responsibility of becoming leaders among their kind such as High Priestesses or Warriors. Nyx is a benevolent Goddess.




Dark Daughters and Sons

The Dark Daughters and Sons is the House of Night’s premier fledgling organization. Its members are the best and brightest of our school and set the standard for the other fledglings. The Leader of the Dark Daughters is chosen because Nyx has gifted her with extraordinary powers. This young woman is considered a High Priestess in Training and has the added responsibility of both performing monthly rituals dedicated to Nyx and leading the fledgling members in the rituals. The Leader of the Dark Daughters is mentored by the High Priestess of the House of Night, who takes special interest in her development. Membership in the Dark Daughters and Sons is by exclusive invitation only. The symbol for the Dark Daughters is the traditional symbol for the Triple Goddess: two crescent moons back-to-back against a full moon. The Leader of the Dark Daughters wears a silver pendant with the symbol, a full moon encrusted with garnets.

Zoey Leanna Redbird was named after great grandma. Zoey means life in Greek, but shed rather be called Zo or Red. Most Of her family is from Greece or is Native American, that is why she is so tan. To keep with her native heritage she got a dream catchers tattoo. She won't sleep with out one on her head board of her bed. She had dark wavy brown hair. She always keeps it up and out of her way. Even though she always puts it up she is very proud of her hair. She has chocolate brown eyes. A lot of women have told her they wish they had her eyes. Zoey is 18 years old, in May she is going to finish high school.

She has took debate all four years of high school as well as drama. She is a very artistic person. She takes ballet after school, as well as pottery and swim team. She is fun girl she loves to be silly and act childish. She is very immature at times, but if she needs to be an adult she will be. She loves to go to parties and flirt. She does that at least once a week. Most of the time it is on the weekend because that is when most party's are going on. She is a very loving person though, she takes care of stray cats until she can find a home for them. Zoey is a very busy women most of the time. She likes to keep her self busy. It keeps her from thinking of bad things, like her father...

Zoeys been here since she could remember. She grew up on sun shin, ocean, and rainbows. Her young life was of a fairy tale. When she turned 12 her father fond out he had cancer. He went on for another two year, but passed away from it. She was heart broken. She went through a very hard time after her father died. She was clothed to her father than her mother. Up until last year she got into some pretty bad stuff. Drugs, alcohol, sex, and all kinds of other stuff. She doesn't regret some of the stuff that she did, but most of it she does. She wishes she had waited until marriage; however, she can't change that. What is done is done.

Zoey has never had a real boyfriend. when she was in elementary through middle school she had a crush on the most popular boy in school. He ended up being the school quarter back. She still kinda thinks he's cute, but would never date him. She has had a few one night stands though. Two years ago from this she got pregnant... However, she had a miscarriage. She was okay with that since she didn't want to be known as the pregnant girl. She is the only one who knows she even got pregnant. She turned last year. She only controls the power of spirt. Zoey is a very interesting girl if you haven't noticed. She's had some bad times, but she always comes back from them stronger.

Cynder Mae Atascadero is cold quiet, and self-named. She used to be Natalie Leah Carson. She changed her name to respect her city after a mountain that was actually a volcano erupted, spattering lava and cinders everywhere. One of the only ones left alive, she was Marked. When told she could change her name, she did immediately and dubbed herself Cynder Mae Atascadero. She is room mate to Zoey(if that is ok) and kept her pet dog from when she was a human.
