"He's never been healthy"? ... Well, that sounds good. (little bit of sarcasm there)

I'm not really big with fish, but I should be able to maybe help and address some issues.

How big are the goldfish? What kind of catfish are they? Your tank sounds a bit overstocked, considering 30-40 gals are ideal for just one fancy goldfish..... How often do you do water changes?

He wasn't too big, about 5 inches maybe? And the catfish ate cities. I got him when I was young and happened to pick an unhealthy fish. His tail was wavy from fin rot scars, and his wyes were lopsided (telescope)

Put some it, and then do a water change after 2-3 days, then put more in if it isn't gone by then.

Hello, I'm Schipperke. :3
I would love to become a member. My passion is definitely fish, since I've been a ichthyologist for a good 2 years now and not planning on stopping. Fish have been my interest since I was a little child. I also have a fish room where in breed various fish for pet shops around the area. I have tanks from 2.5 gallons up to 55 gallons. I've been keeping a notebook with all the information of every freshwater fish you can buy in it. I answer questions on a daily basis actually. In the past I've bred Bettas (halfmoon, king, veil tail), but currently I breed oscars, golden wonder killifish, goldfish, jewel cichlids, and fancy guppies. I mostly specialize in cichlids though, because I love their personalities. But yes, enough of my story. I'd love to join. :3

Welcome!! :)

So guys... I've lost my platy today. I had her about 2 years. I also lost in total, 2 angels. Something is up with my tank. I just don't know what. Now I'm down to 4 angels and 2 flame tetras. I'm tempted to re-home the angels and get 2 more flame tetras, 4 cories, and maybe 2 platy's or guppies or something. Any ideas?

Juke-Box-Hero is correct. You are only supposed to have only 2 fancy goldfish in a 30 gallon at max(which its better to under stock a fish tank, especially a goldfish tank) I have no clue about the cat fish though.
I would also like to know how often you do water changes, also if you can get your water tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels and tell us the results, that would be good. You can pick an unhealthy fish, but with regular care, clean water and a good diet you can heal a lot of things. I say that from experience.

EmoKittehXD wrote:Okay is there something wrong with one of the three comets i had decided to keep. (from an earlier time period) Ponyo's tail is huge, mcgee hides in the rock hideout with his fins flattened all the time (actually i don't think i've ever seen him distend his fins) and he is the smallest. and suzie is always darting around with still a swollen belly. she's been doing the same, and she hasn't laid eggs yet, so i'm thinking maybe she is like a balloon belly fish or somethiong, or is still carrying eggs.

How long has her belly been swollen? How big is the tank? What are the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels? How often do you do water changes? What do you feed? How much and how often?
The fin clamping sounds like it might be a water quality issue and the darting(also called flashing) sounds like a parasite. The swollen belly could be a number of things. Can you get a video or picture?

Nevermind, she had eggs yesterday. Um, i do partails almost every week. no ammonia and safe nitrates. i feed them each a sinking pellet. i'm not sure about the parasite thing, because i've had many darting fish, its just freaky to wake up to your fish throwing pebbles and then seeing your goldie dart whenever you approach the tank. oh, and i removed the eggs.

Camera has no batteries, so thats a negative. plus my computer has no sd card reader. sorry.

I generally do a partial water change every week and syphon the bottom. How do you check the nitrate and ammonia levels? The catfish are really small, only about 1.5 inches at the most. They help keep the tank clean by eating flakes my fish miss.
