Shelly knew Mr. Narwhale was becoming uptight with this boy around.
It had been weeks, and the more often he came, the more restless Mr. Narwhale acted.

Her beloved toy lay on the bed most of the time. Painfully stitched together, stuffing leaking from the seams.
Often, the misty pink thing would seep out of it, rasping in the voice she'd heard since her smaller days.

It talked of distress, it talked of the huge beyond.
It spoke of threads, and things she must do.
It taught her as well.
Taught her how to get what she wanted.
Anything she wanted.
At first, there were small things.
Little toys that kids at school had. She wanted them so badly.
She'd always wanted those expensive little things, with all of their accessories.
Her parents wouldn't buy them for her.
But at school, she realized, it was a simple matter of another little girl handing it over to her.
A simple motion.
It was a matter of having it handed to her.
It was such an easy thing to make her do.
And in her hand, was the little toy.

Her classmates were easy to move around.
She got their toys, their ice cream money, their places in line, the swingset, cute little hair ribbons, sharpest pencils... In fact, she could make them sharpen her pencils.
Adults though... they were more challenging.
They took more thread, more strength.
Like pulling a Clydesdale instead of a foal.
It was too exhausting, on the inside, like in the mind.
They usually didn't even notice when she tried to move them.
Sometimes they would falter for a moment, consider 'taking Shelly out for ice cream'.
Or 'letting Shelly stay up a bit later.' But not usually.

It was going to come with practice apparently.
Practice, yes. She would do that plenty.
All the time.

She saw plenty of things she wanted.
All the time. Everywhere.
It didn't take much convincing, teaching her how to get them.

Especially like that boy with the red eyes.
He was like a porcelain doll.
And she wanted him.
Even if, her Master didn't like it.

It was a weird sort of want.
Not like the boys at school.
She had them falling all over her, doing whatever she wanted.
She didn't like them so much.
Him though, he was older. Not by a whole lot. More like the age of her brother, who was just a few years ahead.
It was like how you would want an object, simply for the sake of having it.
Like a pretty thing to look at.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that her master didn't WANT her to have him.
It made her want possession even more.

In that case... she would simply have to ensure that she got hold of him.
Before anything else got in the way.
After all, she realized,
the entire world,
everything she saw,
was hers for the taking.
