Joshua has a hard outer shell to him, and is a very quiet, hard-working young man. Generally, he's very harsh, and knows what he wants, and will do whatever it'll take to get it. Because of this rebellious personality, he's received great punishments more than once. Up to this day, the only chip in his armor, is his younger brother, who turned fourteen this year. More names added in the reaping bowl. He hasn't given much thought whether or not he would jump in and volunteer. Whether or not it would just spill out of him to die for his brother. Or stay home, work day and night in the fields with the rest of his poor and starving district, refusing to watch the games.

Hailing from the second poorest district aside from twelve, he's pretty well like everyone else. Malnourished and unsure of what real food tastes like. But, with the hard farming work, it's earned him a good muscle mass from the hours and hours of working out in the fields. Plowing, seeding, harvesting. All by hand. That will be his only advantage in the arena, besides his limited knowledge of plants, and general outdoor things. But he's no spoiled district one kid that had had years of training for this event, but can hold his own.

Josh has six people, including him, living under one roof. Small roof. The shelter they refuge in and call 'home' is no where near big enough. Along with him, and his younger brother of course, their father is also in their life. The boys's mother passed away in the field. A sudden stroke, which no one knew the cause of. Joshua's father's mother also lives with them, dangerously ill. Also, two young cousins of Josh's stays with them, just five years old, their parents taken. Brother and sister, one seven the other just five. Being the oldest child in the house, Josh works hard for his family with his father.

Listening to the sounds of his training boots hitting the ground, he refused to let anything else but his footsteps, heartbeat and breathing penetrate his mind. Entering the training center, his sharp blue gaze swept over everything, waiting for a station to stick out and strike his fancy. A rack of spears. Cutting across the room, his right hand reached out, closing around the thin metal shaft of the spear, head glinting in the light. Drawing his arm back, he leaned into the throw with his whole body, sending the weapon flying, where it stuck, directly in the heart area of the body outline with a muffled thump. Again, he grasped another, throwing it with a bit less care, where it connected on the left shoulder area.
